    1. Indeed, by broadening our contacts to include people of multiple national, linguistic, ethno-racial, and regional backgrounds we may gain access to the cultural knowledge needed to view the world through others’ eyes, and the linguistic codes that establish life lines to diverse perspectives.

I think if you are an open-minded enough individual, you already have the ability to see things through the eyes of others. I think open-mindedness could help those who are not very ethnically diverse by race or nationality (for example, white Americans) achieve that level of diversity.

    2. On the other hand, without linguistic flexibility and limited cultural fluency many white Americans’ options are also limited.

I can definitely see how this quote is true as a white, monolingual American. I think language is a huge contributor to becoming a more ethnically diverse person because it opens so many more doors for you with other people that speak that language. Again, this is just what I've noticed among my friends and others around me, my validity to this statement is not as strong because I only speak English.

    3. Personally, I cannot really relate to this, but I have seen it work for some of my friends that come from different ethnic backgrounds. For example, I have noticed most of my Brazilian teammates tend to connect better than with others. The same is true for my other teammates that are native Spanish speakers, even if their families do not come from the same countries, they connect well with each other because of their common language.
