The Syrian war is very complex politically. Russia and Iran are supporting Assad's government in Syria while they are committing atrocities in their own country, while still having relations with the US and other UN nations who support rebel groups within Syria. In the midst of this, the terrorist group ISIS is also in the conflict, in trying to take out Assad and input a Islamic caliphate.

Syrian government is a brutal dictatorship that denies its own involvement of bombing their civilians. Shows the despair the civilians of Syria are in, with numerous groups fighting each other and not being able to trust their own government. With Bashar al-Assad in power, it seems like the violence will not stop for a while, and this devastating conflict will continue to effect the country.

As we can see, the objectives of war has changed dramatically in the past century. Before, it was mainly for military casualties. But starting in the 20th century, the civilian population has been a major target in the midst of war. This is shown in the Syrian civil war, where civilian casualties are almost the same to military casualties. This has also caused the refugee situation, in which millions of Syrians are fleeing the battlegrounds to safety with their families. The refugee crisis is one of Europe's top problems presently.

Again, this shows the result of this devastating conflict. Many doctors have to go through this experience of treating victims of air strikes and gunfights. Many reporters also say that they have been scarred after going to the battlefield to report for the news, seeing dead bodies on the road and family members crying over their dead family members.

Result of this devastating civil war. Everyday civilians are always getting killed in the midst of this conflict, separating families and friends. By 2017, 400,000 people have been killed, with a third being civilians. This is a clear example where the line between the military and civilians are blurred, and in result casualties always include civilians.
