Maybe some combination of fact-checking and other tools can curb the public’s susceptibility to being misled. But by focusing a little less on the facts and more on the complexities of the problems that divide them, Americans can take one big step back from the abyss, and toward each other.

Rather than label the “lab leak” hypothesis or “natural immunity” idea as true or false, disagreement checkers would highlight the complicated sub-issues involved. They would show how the uncertain science looks very different depending on people’s values and level of trust.
Begin with students clarifying tryst in source and preconceived belief to avoid confirmation bias

Journalists are thinking more about engagement
It's a vicious cycle. If they can't succeed financially they can't "reclaim a public role"

For example, this semester, I shared Papert’s critiques of school culture with students, helping them to see the pedagogical choices I’m making and making clear the vision for learning I hope students embrace
So important to share the "why", making thinking visible, of our instructional choices with students.

My hyperlinks and commentary will become the portal to the resources that people engage to gain context, background, and nuance. It’s a tremendous responsibility, but also a tremendous opportunity, to connect my skills as an academic and a humanist to the issues of the day, in an attempt to bring nuance and truth to the public consciousness.
But...as previous comment, how is adding obviously biased hyperlinks acting responsibly?

Or are we, instead, really offering a replicable process of thinking that’s tied to the concepts of a discipline, which can start being transferred tomorrow not an at indeterminate point in the future
Yes, using process as scaffolding.

A critical literacy means that students probe who benefits and who suffers, how did it come to be this way, what are the alternatives, and how can we make things more just
Here I'm making the connection between advocacy and innovation. Why? What if? How? Understanding the problem through empathy lenses, identifying the causes, iterating possible solutions and creating a plan of action.
However, I'm thinking that I've somewhat diminished the importance of what I've always shared as a "process" rather than a literacy.

Interesting and contrary to telling students to acess the original research to determine accuracy. Conclusion: triangulation of quality secondary sources which summarize same research, is better evidence of credibility than research alone.
