      The writing style is very descriptive. The readers are able to get a clear picture of what each character looked like and how they felt. Oral history was not used, but this method actually allows for more detail through description. With oral history, we did not see the same level of description as we do here in terms of attitude and appearance.

      Here is an example of how the objectification of women is a norm. Notice how in this excerpt, there is no mention of whether women want to be with a man based on his appearance. This, in part, speaks to the time period as well as the Jewish culture. Even a feminist like herself, it was typical to talk this way.

      This section demonstrates how important preserving Jewish religion was. Rav would check on his daughter just to make sure she was only being taught Jewish ideologies. Additionally, this story shows how close the Jews meant to keep their community. Only other Jewish members were chosen for partners for other Jews. Here, Perele's groom was chosen in advance, a well educated Jewish member.

      This shows the instant judgement that women faced by other women. Women were less supportive of each other then, and you had to be a leader to be a feminist. People often like to put all women into the feminine stereotype of fragile, so it's not surprising that other women don't believe that Perele has real health issues.
