    1. his qualitativeview of digital native students, as expressed in their own words, adds detail andadditional nuance to the growing body of quantitative data that challenges the popularconception of the digital natives as a homogeneous generation with a commonlearning style.

I think this is important in that the abstract does a great job of setting a very general and intriguing overview of the paper and what was studied. This sentence in particular keeps the reader interested in my mind by generally implying some of the potential implications or areas in where there are things to be drawn from in looking at this research and data. It shows where the research is pointing to without giving out what the results are.

    2. ight purposefullychosen university freshmen

i think these few words show who the possible discourse community is as it highlights who the target of the study is. I think there are two potential discourse communities here: one being students themselves and the other being university educators. I think reading further along and reading this sentence overall speaks to the formality of the writing piece and reflects maybe a more formal discourse community being university educators. The writing style shown here and throughout the paper imply a greater purpose and interest for educators using this data and information to make more informed decisions in regards to students.

    3. This study explored how a selection of digital native aged college freshmen describedthe effects of technology on their learning and their responses to the claims made abouttheir generation.

I think this sentence speaks to the classical research style of the paper. It is written in a very classical, and formal research capacity the way many science research or lab reports are written. This sentence is reflective of that tone and seriousness of the way in which Thompson chooses to deliver his research and findings. Moreover, I think this speaks to the audience of the paper maybe speaking more to a formal community like educator or somebody in the educational system to better address and meet needs of students and how they learn.

    1. ote: Respondents who did not give an answer are not shown. Verbatim responses have been coded into categories, and figures may add up to more than 100%because multiple responses were allowed.Source: Survey conducted March 7-April

This page very adequately combines quotes from the research with colorful graphics. it makes it much easier for the reader to follow and stay interested in the piece. Seeing the graphics to go along with the quotes allows a better overall understanding of the research and gives the finding more context.

    2. It enables people to connect with friends easily and be able to make new friends as well.” (Boy, age 15)

This type of research and data provided in a piece is very valuable and seems to be less often shard in a public fashion. Many times qualitative research seems to have a tendency to point to percentages that simply put people in general categories of opinions or thoughts but lack the more detailed information that could provide more valuable information to the reader.

    1. In other words, the perpetually disappearing (or poten-tially disappearing) product of a street artist is akin to the al-ready always-disappearing work of a dancer or an actor

I think this is an important expansion upon the importance and culture of street art. Notably, showing how there are alot of similar ways in which the audiences of street art and performing arts see and interpret their artists in similar fashions. In a way, both "experience" their performer with one being a performance of movement, sound, visual aspects, and another of something that is more still, only shaped by natural movements and sounds in the environment that the art is in. In both cases, the experience from the audience's perspective lies in their memory of it.

    2. It is this self-conscious performance of an art sale that most urgently addresses the complex relationship between con-temporary notions of value and the role of the performing artist. Drawing explicit attention to the interrelationship of art and the economy, Banksy here makes apparent the complementary nature of the two, exposing (and indeed profiting from) this interdependence.

I find this style of writing to be very interesting in terms of taking certain excerpts of the text and blocking them in this fashion. It's interesting to think about the purpose in doing this. Is it to give people something to look back to when looking back at the article? Is it something meant for people looking for some of the more important parts of the piece? Is it something that grabs the reader's attention in one spot, and then when they see it later, meant to make them think back to where they originally saw the block of text?

    1. n extension of this hypothesis is that clothingfacilitates, the adoption of alternative behavioural norms and values, which althoughdifferent to an individuals’everyday conduct, are nonetheless credible when appro-priately contextualise

I think this an important and interesting point. However, i think this speaks too much to generalizing a community that is inherently quite diverse. There is a lack of greater detail in this analysis that doesn't go beyond generalizations like the comments about day-glo clothing. I think it would've been more formal to touch on and discuss the level of diversity within this community.

    2. A common appeal of dance music events raised by participants is the sense ofbeing at ease amongst hundreds or even thousands of complete strangers, of beingaccepted and accepting others for who they are and not judging others or beingjudged by others.

How is this any different then let's say Woodstock in the 60s? I think something that is notably missing from this piece is actual research that was done in the field. Going too formal in this writing and strictly relying on formal writing as opposed to actual experience with places in which people listen to dance music on this level. I think these comparisons are important to make to similar communities in the past and also important for more actual experience in these communities in order to better discuss and understand the uniqueness and nuances of this community.
