    1. ator of me

The vocabulary plays a huge role in the shift of our thinking of duties of teachers and as ourselves as teachers. I feel a lot more valuable and respected with this different set of terminology

    2. inside and outside the classroom

Our role of teacher doesn't end when we leave the building and I appreciate that is acknowledged

    3. pplauds with enthusiasm

Whenever we have an assignment that asks us to list the roles of a teacher it feels infinite, what don't we do? And we do all of it out love and respect for the child. We wear so many hats.

    4. isolated and egocentri

The more I am able to observe and focus on the children the more empathy and kindness I see across all age ranges.Today, I was lucky enough to work with a variety of ages. In the infant classroom one little girl would hand a tambourine to a teacher then the teacher would hand it back making the little girl smile, the little girl handed the tambourine back to the teacher and the teacher smiled and the little girl smiled at that. In the almost two year old classroom a little girl was crying and a little boy brought over a toy giraffe to make her feel better. I really admire that Malaguzzi took the stand against all other theories stating that children are isolated/egocentric because it's so evident that they live in a social, empathetic world from an extremely young age.

    1. play is crucial to the well-being and development of children, and is the main activity through which children seek and find meaning

learn through play, play to learn

    2. different connotations,

It's fascinating how changing the phrasing changes the meaning in its entirety

    3. right

I feel like we have had a lot of discussions about children's rights and how they deserve rights. I find it so interesting that the language we use (you have the right to learn, you don't have the right to touch his body, etc.) they translate and use it to guide their moral compass.

    4. a 4-year-old boy who demonstrat-ed with his parents against the war car-ried a protest sign into his class at Boulder Journey School and declared, "l, 2, 3, 4 ... we don't want your muddy war."

I love how perceptive children are to repeat what we find passionate. They can adopt our passions as theirs and I find that to be so powerful

    1. "Every action produces knowledge, and every knowledge an action,

Learning occurs while playing; open-ended materials

    2. Ours is a culture that breaks down, separates, specializes in division and not in listening to other disciplines or other cultures;

It's interesting to me that the way that I feel about American Culture is the same way she feels about Italian culture. In my mind I've always held European cultures to be more open and inclusive, but that doesn't seem to be the case.

    3. children exploited

I personally feel that people forget that these children turn into adults - the ones that are forced to compete in pageants and get yelled at on the sidelines of their soccer games. They aren't nurtured and developmentally appropriately raised, they are emotionally neglected and in that way their languages are ignored in my opinion

    4. incorporatescriteria of relationship andcommunication, and we believe that it constitutes the most complete and evolutionary approach to the different areas of knowledge

This is such an important concept. There are so many ways to communicate other than verbally and many more effective ways. As an adult, I find that when my emotions are the strongest are the times when I struggle to communicate them verbally. Physical touch, silence, expression through art and music are just as powerful if not more

    1. The teacher must forget all the lines he knewbefore and invent the ones he doesn’t remember

      Great analogy

    2. Our task is to construct educational situations that wepropose to the children in the morning. It’s okay toimprovise sometimes but we need to plan the project. It may be a project that is projected over a period ofdays, or weeks, or even months. We need to producesituations in which children learn by themselves, inwhich children can take advantage of their ownknowledge and resources autonomously, and inwhich we guarantee the intervention of the adult aslittle as possible. We don’t want to teach childrensomething that they can learn by themselves. Wedon’t want to give them thoughts that they can comeup with by themselves. What we want to do isactivate within children the desire and will and greatpleasure that comes from being the authors of theirown learning.

      Provocations!

    3. We have to find each other in the forest and begin todiscuss what the education of the child actuallymeans. The important aspect is not just to promotethe education of the child but the health and happi-ness of the child as wel

This is a beautiful sentiment and the core of this all - happiness and working together

    4. School can never be alwayspredictable. We need to be open to what takes placeand able to change our plans and go with whatmight grow at that very moment both inside thechild and inside ourselves

This is something that I have serious cognitive dissonance with and am learning to let go. I have a certain thing that I think will be beneficial and the children don't like it. I need to be the one to let it go and listen to their needs, not the other way around. It's something that I'm struggling with so far but I can acknowledge and try as hard as I can.

    5. There’s a difference between the environmentthat you are able to build based on a preconceivedimage of the child and the environment that you canbuild that is based on the child you see in front of you— the relationship you build with the child, thegames you play

The materials closet in BJS makes this possible to keep changing and growing our room to fit our childrens specific wants/needs

    1. Theroleofparents

This to me is one of the most special things about Reggio inspired schools - the way it goes beyond just the relationship of child to parent and child to teacher, it brings all components together to complete a well rounded and important education. Trying to make children compartmentalize home life versus school life is eliminated because all elements work together. The parent support makes a tremendous amount of difference whether it be in supplies or just affirmation that everyone is on board for the rights of children
