We have been teaching the importance of having a positive digital footprint for years; how do we actually get students to understand this concept? With the increase of consumption, do we have to change the way to we teach students to be responsible digital citizens? Many students are still making the same mistakes online as they were before we taught what means to have a positive digital footprint.

The digital world is a vast expanse of learning and entertainment. But it is in this digital world that kids are also exposed to many risks, such as cyberbullying, technology addiction, obscene and violent content, radicalization, scams and data theft.
Agreed. Navigating this delicate balance between offering opportunity for consuming, curating, and consuming in the digital world and the dangers that lurk there for both my students and my own children is a difficult task.

Tie in with the SEL standards? Relationships are just face-to-face anymore.

What do we do about the fact that our children's digital footprint is going to be huge by the time they are in high school? Good thing or bad?

This is where we need to teach them to be good digital citizens...where does it begin at the home or at school?

Digital intelligence or “DQ” is the set of social, emotional and cognitive abilities that enable individuals to face the challenges and adapt to the demands of digital life.
This is important to start in the early grades. I need to begin teaching them this in first grade.

Correct me if I am wrong, but I have read that too much screen time for children of young ages can hinder their development. I do agree that being able to be productive and safe online are crucial tools for our students and children in general, but what about the social/emotional skills they need when they are face to face with others? We are all familiar with how easy it is to be someone else online, but where do the person we are in real life and the person we are online converge or diverge and is this healthy?

This is where cyberbullying begins to happen. It may create a world that is so far from reality.

Children are using digital technologies and media at increasingly younger ages and for longer periods of time.
I see this at home with my own kids.

Yes but we still see issues of access and inequality. There is wealth concentration never before seen.
