We first searched the literature detailing the negative consequences of hearing loss for adults with acquired hearing loss and the literature detailing a link between hearing aid use (behaviour) and amelioration of these negative consequences (outcomes). This allowed us to define the problem of poor outcomes for people with acquired hearing loss in behavioural terms (low levels of hearing aid use).
