    1. "An analysis separates complex materials in their different parts and studies how the parts relate to one another."

The difference between an analysis paragraph versus a summary paragraph is that a summary paragraph is a short compile of the main information of the topic versus an analysis paragraph is more-so a comparison of of muliple topics and how they relate to another.

    2. "During the writing process, it is helpful to position yourself as a reader. Ask yourself whether you can focus easily on each point you make. One technique that effective writers use is to begin a fresh paragraph for each new idea they introduce."

Seeing and understanding your writing process in a reader's perspective will also help you to evaluate whether your text has achieved it's purpose and being able to point out the main arguments that you make in your writing.

    1. Finding the Most Vivid Terms: "you will want to continue enhancing your writing to engage your reader."

Just like when you are reading a book, it's important for the author to pick specific word choices or phrases that relate to the outline or plot of the story in order for you, as the reader, to be engaged.

    2. "You’ve probably heard that one quality found in good writing is voice. Voice refers to elements of the author’s tone, phrasing, and style that are recognizably unique to her or him. Having a distinctive, persuasive voice is crucial to engaging your audience — without it, your paper risks falling flat, no matter how much research you’ve compiled or how well you’ve followed other directions."

An example of two distictive authors with their own unique style in writing could be Dante Alighieri's writing vs Shakespeare. Both have a sense of formal, poetic style but you can still differentiate their writing because of their use of phrasing.

    3. "Content is also shaped by tone. When the tone matches the content, the audience will be more engaged, and you will build a stronger relationship with your readers."

An example of Tone would be when you are reading a text and you can tell from the author/writer's word choice and sentence structure about their emotions whether they feel frustrated about a certain topic, excited, etc.. (Par.4)

    1. - we had assurances the CAT scanwould be found, promises that a conference call on Monday would be held, and apologies for any sufferingmy mother had gone through for a most regrettable mistake

Like the statement in Paragraph 4, I find it very disheartening to see people get mistreated just because there is a language barrier or because people do not care to make the extra effort to understand.

    2. hen I was fifteen, she used to have mecall people on the phone to pretend I was she. In this guise, I was forced to ask for information or even tocomplain and yell at people who had been rude to her.

I used to have a similar story where I would help my family communicate on the phone with an English representative who could not understand and communicate with my family.

    3. Like others, I havedescribed it to people as 'broken" or "fractured" English. But I wince when I say that. It has alwaysbothered me that I can think of no way to describe it other than "broken," as if it were damaged and neededto be fixed, as if it lacked a certain wholeness and soundness

I agree with this statement because I think this way of wording can be hurtful to people who have worked hard to at least try and educate themselves on learning English especially for immigrants who were/are not originally native speakers.

    4. Yet some ofmy friends tell me they understand 50 percent of what my mother says. Some say they understand 80 to 90percent. Some say they understand none of it, as if she were speaking pure Chinese. But to me, my mother'sEnglish is perfectly clear, perfectly natural. It's my mother tongue.

As someone who has an Asian background, I can relate to the author's text because while there are people who cannot understand my family's way of speaking English, I can understand them because I grew up with them in order for myself to understand enough.

    5. I've often used that same kind of English with him, and sometimes he even uses it with me. Ithas become our language of intimacy, a different sort of English that relates to family talk, the language Igrew up with.

In relation to the text below, the more times you spend with someone, the more your languages blend together in order to communicate. Like the author stated, this is another form of intimacy.

    6. -a speech filled with carefully wrought grammaticalphrases, burdened, it suddenly seemed to me, with nominalized forms, past perfect tenses, conditionalphrases, all the forms of standard English that I had learned in school and through books, the forms ofEnglish I did not use at home with my mother.

This makes me refer back to the times I would speak in 'informal' English with my friends vs when I must speak professionally in my workplace.
