“The land is now covered with cities. The cities are full of Dumpsters. I think of scavenging as a modern form of self-reliance. In any event, after ten years of government service, where everything is geared to the lowest common denominator, I find work that rewards initiative and effort refreshing. Certainly I would be happy to have a sinecure again, but I am not heartbroken not to have one anymore.
For my Visual Annotation on the reading, "On Dumpster Diving" by Lars Eighner, I chose to visually annotate paragraph 73 on page 157. When I read the line, "The cities are full of dumpsters.", I imagined a world of trash. This lead me to think that the world is trashy, yet Lars Eighner has found his treasures in life by dumpster diving. Also, he notes, "I would be happy to have a sinecure again, but I am not heartbroken not to have one anymore." This statement tells his readers that it may be hard dumpster diving for a living, but he is not unhappy with his lifestyle. This paragraph lead me to conclude that even in a trashy world, people may find their greatest treasures, where most people would never imagine. I created an image through my iPad showing a world, surrounded by an image of trash I took and edited, with Lars Eighner on the side thinking, "Oh, the treasures you could find in this trashy world!" to visually annotate this paragraph.
Below is the shared link to my image I created.
