no evidence that they were alive; or if alive, that they will ever, probably,be restored to them
This idea of remarriage seems to heavily rely upon the notion that the pair will indeed find their way to one another again and resume their marriage. It almost treats the separation described as a fight to be made up in the future especially with the notion that they need to be dead in order for it to prevail.
Better Get Used To It
They are essentially arguing that by being graded now and getting used to the system, they will perform better later when its implementation is 'crucial' for them.
Rubrics
I really dislike in-depth rubrics, they make an assignment too guided to the point where I feel like I have no creativity in how I get it done. I understand that it definitely makes the grading process easier, and in a larger class that may be a savior, but still does not feel fun to follow.
measure
I've heard the argument before that grades do not necessarily measure how well a student grasps a concept but rather how well they can get a good grade.
too much attention to the particulars of implementation may be distracting us from the bigger picture
This concept reminds me of part of a quote by the Buddhist Takuan Soho, "Preoccupied with a single leaf, you won't see the tree" which can be applied to a variety of scenarios such as what the author is covering here, where many focus on the implementation of academic assessment rather than whether it is necessary. The same quote can be related to students who focus so much on their grades that they are missing what the purposes of classes truly are, to have one learn.
