Profit and peace, it seemed, could not coexist.
Rarely does profit and peace coexist. I think maybe when it comes to a non profit organization, but if it is in a workplace mostly likely profit will be at the cost of the experience for the workers. Some will get discriminated against or the company will make drastic cost cuts where there really should not, which makes it worse for the workers, but definitely helps them. This is not creating a peaceful environment for the whole of people.

Affonso became increasingly alarmed as hesaw the trade destroying his society.
Every tier of people create a community and the society's reputation, by taking them away this actually hurt the society more than it did having them in the society.

Why do you think that King Alfonso let the Portuguese enslave his subjects at first?
I think that King Alfonso let the Portuguese enslave his subjects at first because he wanted to get rid of the people who were he thought were holding them back from being even more powerful. I think that is why he only really let lower-class citizens and prisoners be taken for slaves. With this he was able to earn more money and that is what he wanted.
Why does the king now request regulations?
The king now requests regulations because their was no care for who they were admitting as slaves. He wanted to make sure that not too many people were being enslaved and if they were that they knew why they were being sold as a slave.

any child with Spanish blood “to the half” was entitled to certain Spanish rights
This definitely is a hierarchy thing even though we definitely have this today. Where it is by chance that you are either born into a wealthy family or not. Back then it was luck to whether you were born with the the purest blood or even half "pure" blood and you got the perks that come with being that.

the Spanish tolerated and sometimes even supported interracial marriage
This really interesting to find out especially since today there are those who do not support interracial marriage or even friendships sometimes. . I guess they found that sometimes it was necessary.

Without realizing this, he called out to Olorun to breathe life into his creatures
creatures being humans. Does this mean that we were just our bodies when he created us we were lifeless, limping figures until life was given to us by the God Olorun? Also, when we were created did he make a variety of ages as well as the deformities that show up among humans?
-
Olokun
Olokun is like I guess what we would think of as God and he just did not like that another God was interfering with his work by creating humans. We were in this story a mistake and a bit of a burden.

The people sacrificed some goats
Why did they choose goats? Goats are often symbolized for like the Devil or just evil. Were goats one of the first animals around?

How does this creation story differ from the others you have read this week?
This creation story differs from the other we read because there are multiple gods involved instead of it just being introduced as a story where things happened almost by accident or just coming from one God. Also, in this story it makes humans seem not as important, because here we were made just out of boredom, as if we serve no other purpose than to entertain Obatala and that a lot of earth was created by carelessness of the gods. Might the presence of multiple Gods change the structure of a society which flows from this story? **
The multiple Gods changes the structure because each god has a responsibility and they all need to keep each other in check. With everything that the Gods do it affects us instead of thinking of it as we are created and now we kind of run things how we want to. In this story everything that the Gods do affects the outcome of our lives. Having multiple Gods complicates things.
How does the behavior of the Gods in this story differ from other creation stories? What might this mean? In the other stories, things did not seem so hectic and it was very straight forward. With this story it seems like there will always be change as long as the Gods can help it. The Gods each have their own personality.

How did human beings arrive in the world? • How were animals helpful? • What did twins do to create the world?
How did human beings arrive in the world?
Humans began arriving in the world when a pregnant woman was pushed down a hole that came from what we now as heaven. The pregnant woman gave birth to a girl who grew up and also became pregnant who then gave birth to two twins.
How were animals helpful?
The animals provided comfort, shelter and resources for the woman when she first arrived when she was ill and helped when all the other members came along.
What did twins create in the world? The twins traveled in different directions and they created mountain ranges, rivers, forests, lakes and trees as well as different climates. They prepared the earth for the arrival of of more humans.
What is the difference between the relationship between animals and humans in this story and the Christian origin story?
The difference I see is that in this story it is seemed that the animals were more knowledge about us than we were when we arrived and that the animals helped make our transition here much more comfortable. It is interesting to note that part of our world was already created when we arrived and we helped finish it. In the creation story there was no foundation at all of what earth was going to be like and it all just appeared at the command of God. In that story animals and humanity work instinctively as a network.

Its fruit is all that we have to live on." With this remark he gave the young woman who lay there ill a shove with his foot, causing her to fall into the hole that had been dug.
How can they just live on fruit? I also found it really ridiculous how he showed no real concern for the ill woman on the floor, but the tree and the hold that was now in the ground. It is also interesting how the vision came true and how they trusted the dream without giving it another thought.

the young woman recovered from the illness from which she suffered
What illness did she have? I thought maybe it had to with her pregnancy, but it sounds unrelated. Did the turtle help aid her in recovery?

With this remark he gave the young woman who lay there ill a shove with his foot, causing her to fall into the hole that had been dug.
This story reminds so much of this other creation story from the Iroquois that I read in the 11th grade. It was about a left handed twin and a right handed twin. It has similar aspects like falling from the sky, a turtle and there being twins. It was altered a lot though. The twins were given names and there is much more detail in this version. The world in which the woman came from was given the name of SkyWorld in one I read on high school.

It makes me think since they are so similar maybe the story was passed around the Iroquois tribes and things were added or taken out or each tribe had their own twist on the story just like any other story that is passed around.

I have given you every herb bearing seed, which is upon the face of all the earth, and every tree, in the which is the fruit of a tree yielding seed; to you it shall be for meat.
I think it is saying that humanity and nature are very closely connected even though most of us will not make the connection even though it is there everyday. When we eat, when we are just walking outside there is nature and it is helping us and providing for us. The trees help us breathe even though on a daily basis we do not give second thought about breathing, but it because of nature that we work together with to help each other survive along with other connections. Though there are exceptions because we can still die or have a hard time breathing even with oxygen present and plants die all the time even with our help with their growth.

And God made two great lights; the greater light to rule the day, and the lesser light to rule the night: he made the stars also
Light is a really important factor in life creations as it is mentioned all throughout the passage and not just in the beginning. This is true in the fact of the food chain. All life work collectively even though we may not encounter each other everyday, but everything is linked back to the sun. The sun provides energy for us and lets us grow food that all of the animals eat to survive. If we did not have the sun it would be difficult to survive.
-
And God said, Let there be light: 2 Cor. 4.6 and there was light.
I wish people would listen to me like this, without question, sometimes. This light that is spoke of is the sun. It sounds like God asked for things and he got it, he was not sure exactly what he was going to get, but he went along with what he was given to create things.
