Kerrick, 28, who joined the Charlotte force in 2011, is on unpaid leave. One of his lawyers, Michael Greene, declined comment on the wrongful-death suit. He also declined an interview on the criminal case against Kerrick, though he has said that the officer’s actions were justified.
In this case the officer who committed the murder is actually being charged but his lawyer is trying to say his actions were justified.

According to his family, Ferrell had dropped off a coworker and was driving home at about 2 a.m. when he veered off the road and crashed his car so badly that he had to kick out the rear window to escape. The lawsuit says he walked a half-mile up a hill, toward the nearest houses, to seek help, and knocked on a door. The woman inside, alone in the home with an infant, answered the door, thinking it was her husband coming home late from work. She saw Ferrell, quickly shut the door, called 911 and frantically reported, “There’s a guy breaking in my front door.”
A false story lead to the killing of Johathon Ferrell and it was most likely because he was african american.
-
The family of Jonathon Ferrell said autopsy results, showing a downward trajectory by most of the bullets, suggest that Ferrell was either on his knees or already on the ground when Officer Randall Kerrick fired most of his shots.
Police continue to shoot people who hands are in the air or who are already on the ground and unarmed.

it's not the American justice system that's bringing attention to the disproportionate number of African-Americans being murdered by police, but smartphones and social media platforms.
It's a good thing that we do have videos of the activity that takes place so we can understand why it may have happened.
-
While smart phones and social media aid in delivering court-of-public opinion justice, they don't necessarily deliver indictments and convictions
Having videos does not matter because police don't necessarily get indicted and or convicted.
-
The Guardian said 32% of African-Americans killed were unarmed while 15% of whites and 25% of Latinos did not have weapons.

the most disturbing thing about these police killings, many of them of unarmed victims, is that our courts find them perfectly legal.
I agree because most of the cases where someone is beaten or killed they are unarmed and the courts seem to over look that.
-
A USA Today analysis of the FBI database found an average of about ninety-six police homicides a year in which a white officer kills a black person.
Most police brutality happens in the African American community.

We could start to change that by mandating that a special prosecutor be appointed to try excessive force cases.
I agree with this statement because part of the reason why so many police officers are getting off is because they are friends with the prosecutors.
-
My colleagues would laughingly refer to this as a free vacation. It isn’t a punishment. And excessive force is almost always deemed acceptable in our courts and among our grand juries.
So police officers don't mind killing an innocent person because if anything they'll just get a "free vacation."
-
The problem is that cops aren’t held accountable for their actions, and they know it. These officers violate rights with impunity. They know there’s a different criminal justice system for civilians and police.
Police brutality keeps happening because most of the officers know that they will not be held responsible for their actions.

Officer Ben Fields was called to the classroom student refused to put her phone away and leave the room at her teacher’s request. The girl did not move, so Fields was called in. He grabbed her, slammed her backwards to the ground, and dragged her to the front of the room.
Excessive force was not needed in this situation, the girl did not move from her seat and was slammed and dragged in front of her class just because she did not put her phone away the situation never had to get that serious.

The South Carolina cop who shot unarmed teenager Zachary Hammond ducked criminal charges last week, despite video appearing to show him open fire on Hammond’s car after it passed him.
It seems like when it comes to police it does not matter if there is a video of them committing the crime because they still will not get in trouble for the action.

Kids are going back to school and so is the ground beef filler dubbed “pink slime.” Thousands of schools across the U.S. rushed last year to stop feeding their students meat that contained the ammonia-treated beef, known by industry as lean finely textured beef.
Schools stopped serving the pink slim and now they are bringing it back into schools.
