Criminal cases happen when someone breaks a law, or commits a criminal offense, which typically results in jail time. Civil cases handle almost all other disputes, and typically aim for some sort of recovery. A criminal case is filed by the government and is led by a prosecuting attorney.

Takeaways: Writs of mandamus, as allowed for by the Judiciary Act of 1789, are unconstitutional; and the portion of the Act which allows for them is invalid. Judicial review is a remedy that allows a court to review acts of Congress for constitutionality and to hold that such acts are invalid if they are unconstitutional.

utional law.
To summarize, in the case McCulloch v. Maryland, the Supreme Court considered whether Congress had the power to create a national bank and whether the state of Maryland had interfered with congressional powers by taxing the national bank. The Supreme Court ruled in favor of McCulloch and found that the state of Maryland had interfered with one of Congress’s implied powers.

Federalism
What issues do you believe should be state level, federal level, or in need of influence of both? This is obviously a personal opinion question and values of each person will affect each answer so how does the gov't divide it up in an unbiased way?
-
These meetings give theman opportunity to try to use the news media to bring public attention to theirconcerns, lobby the national government, and reap policy benefits for their states.
Using news media to draw attention to certain issues is not exclusive to gov't officials, but common citizens too. Like we talked about in class, Gabby Petito's case is one of high media reach. At Gabby Petito's funeral yesterday, her father Joe used the highly attended and talked about funeral to discuss advice for women in relationships. Knowing the story would be broadcasted in a way, he told attendees to leave relationships that are not healthy or best for you. In this speech, he told people to take inspiration from Gabby, hoping someone could learn from her and avoid a situation as awful as her story.

news media’s depictions can connect and affectdifferent levels of government
This reminds me of how we discussed media bias and how the rendering of facts to fit a story influences ideas by citizens listening. In an issue with multiple levels of gov't, there is even more confusion leading to misunderstanding in citizens' minds and therefore misinformation that causes improper involvement in our democratic gov't.

The national government has an impact on state and localgovernments, which in turn influence each other and the national government
American federalism is currently being tested with Texas' abortion laws as Roe V. Wade is essentially being opposed in Texas with the six week abortion ban. How the US comes out of this situation whether this legislation stays exclusive to Texas or spreads to other states will be an interesting thing to witness not only for the laws of women but a test of our two level gov't.

The war in Iraq was dragging on long past President George W. Bush’s declarationin May 2003 of the end of formal hostilities.
Reading this I automatically connected it to the US' pulling out of troops in Afghanistan but conflict still occuring whether it be American Citizens left there, opposition to the decision, and ideas that leaving Afghan citizens to the hands of the Taliban and just the Afghan military to defend not being humanitarian.

The Constitution is a living document, just like our Honor Code here at SG. As time changes since the founding of the US or the founding of SG, expectations for actions and "rules" must change with it.

Bias of the System
Interesting how the name makes me think of the bias being for things to go through the system easy and cause efficiency but it is for discourse to occur. Also, more disagreement and obstacles created by views of people put in these positions that are all meant to have different outlooks.

The Constitution is sometimes silent or vague, making it flexible and adaptable tonew circumstances
Why does the Constitution leave so many aspects of our governance and our rights intentionally vague? Is it because it would have been impossible to predict the evolution of society?

They may appear marginal, disorganized, or unhinged, but they are aggressive, expansionary, and rooted in a sophisticated under-standing of human cognitive and emotional vulnerabilities.
This is very well written. Troll culture and cancel culture are both what propaganda specialists refer to as information warfare methods. Both troll culture and cancel culture are from those who intentionally antagonize others.

The policed may go mute in public, but resentment builds up in their hearts and homes, then bursts forth in the voting booth when activated by a demagogue.
When it comes to politics, many individuals feel uneasy because they are terrified to disagree.

Socially and profes-sionally, they could be, as the new term had it, canceled.
It can appear all-encompassing at times, as if all kinds of current debate must now lead to an attempt to "cancel" anybody whose opinions cause controversy or to unfounded accusations of cancel culture in action.
