Extensive and scholarly annotated bibliographies are sometimes published
First time to know that, it will be a great things to do to see how other people planing for their research and how they use the best source.
-
So, a very important part of research is developing a thesis that is debatable, interesting, and current.
I always spend a lot of time on my thesis because it is the first thing readers will see, and they sometimes judge based on it.
-
even others
I like to have multiple resources, start reading the abstract for each one, and then decide which one is better for my essay. Also, I will keep them all until I finish the research in case I want more sources.
-
Summarize
This is the most crucial method because it will help me later if I return to take some information from this article. Also, after I answer these question, I can figure out if this source good for my research or not.

Teachers can use our tasks to track student understanding and to adjust instruction accordingly.
Working with teachers to enhance students' ability to know what they are reading on the internet will be a great idea, and it will produce a new generation with a high ability to know the good sources on the internet.
-
We used screen shots of Slate’s landing page to assess students’ ability to distinguish between a news item and an ad. Similarly, we used screen shots of tweets, Facebook posts, and a reproduction of CNN’s website in crafting other exercises
I like that they use screenshots from Twitter and Facebook because the new generation spends a vast amount of time on these apps, and they have to know how to distinguish between the good and bad source
-
Summaries of each of our exercises are below. The exercises in bold appear in the following pages
Excellent summary on how they give different exercises for each education stage and how all of them aim to one goal to measure how students deal with other types of sources.

analyzed 7,804 student responses. Our sites for field-testing included under-resourced, inner-city schools in Los Angeles and well-resourced schools in suburbs outside of Minneapolis.
A good information about the demographic of participant and it has two contrast groups with mentioning the date to enhance the credibility

At strategic moments throughout your text, we recommend that you include what we call “return sentences.
Return sentence is a great way of writing and I will make sure to use that in my next essay. Also, other template are very useful and give me a better understanding to what the writer try to teach us.
-
you could start with an illustrative quotation, a revealing fact or statistic, or—as we do in this chapter
I like to use a statistic at the beginning of my essay because I think it grab people attention and make them curious about the rest of the essay.
-
we suggest that you summarize what “they say” as soon as you can in your text, and remind readers of it at strategic points as your text unfolds. Though it’s true that not all texts follow this practice, we think it’s important for all writers to master it before they depart from it
Good advice for us is to start with what people say in other research papers and then add your points and discussion.
-
to keep an audience engaged, a writer needs to explain what he or she is responding to
A writers should know their audience and work to make them engage and not lost during the speech. Also, it is better to give each information on the right time to make the audience comfortable about what we are saying.
-
Because our speaker failed to mention what others had said about Dr. X’s work, he left his audience unsure about why he felt the need to say what he was saying
It is important to show why are you bringing other words and how it really helps you introducing your points.

Strategies for Visual Sources
AS a geology major, I like to see an visual explanation of what we learned on class. Also, My drawing is bad but it really help me to understand the idea more easily by making a sketch.
-
READING ALOUD TO PARAPHRASE
I like to use this methods especially when I am memorizing new information and I prefer to be in quite place. I always take note at university and then go to my apartment and read it out loud.
-
secondary sources are filtering an event or subject through some- one else’s perspective.
Great example of how secondary source can be bias and it shows the importance of taking both primary and secondary source under consideration. Understand them will help us to know how to receive the information and how we can take what we needs.
-
Google Scholar restricts your search results to sources written by scholars— that is, professional researchers.
I like to use google scholar and I found it more easy to navigate but sometimes the research paper need you to pay to access them. So, I will copy the subject and go to UNL library resource.

e Angulo goes on to say that wandering can lead to death, to hopelessness, to madness, to various froms of despair, or that it may lead to encounters with other powers in the remoter places a wanderer may go. He concludes, “When you have become quite wild, then perhaps some of the wild things will come to take a look at you, a
It is interesting and can be applied to different aspects of life. For example, if you are curious about science, your mind may become tired, but in the end, you will be rewarded by discovering new things.
-
The question then is how to get lost. Never to get lost is nor to live,
I like this sentence and how the writers convey the idea that getting lost can be something positive. It helps people to think, become more creative, and explore new things.

Much of the pleasure of the writing has derived from the chance to ex-perience narrative as a product of impetus and accident.
I learned that some writers only plan the beginning and the ending, and the middle is changeable, allowing anything to come to the writer's mind.

Soon I was traversing the cemetery every day, learning to read it, seeing what caught my eye (odd stones, epitaphs, decorations, spacing, plant-ings), jotting down names and locations, and then going home to explore in a different way the anomalies or idiosyncrasies I’d noticed.
Getting inspired by things he encountered at the cemetery is an excellent idea. I liked that and I am planing to use it in the future.

I love my attic writing space
Great start of describing writing place environment and how change based on the writer state of mind

You don't be afraid. I said it was intended that you should perish, in the ghetto, perish by never being allowed to go beyond and behind the white man's definition, by never being allowed to spell your proper name.
He teaches James to be strong and to never be discouraged by the voices of white people who think they are superior. Additionally, the phrase "by never being allowed to spell your proper name" symbolizes the lack of freedom and limitations experienced by black people
-
It will be hard, James, but you come from sturdy peasant stock, men who picked cotton, dammed rivers, built railroads, and in the teeth of the most terrifying odds, achieved an unassailable and monumental dignity.
James should be proud of his ancestors for enduring numerous hardships that ultimately led to his current position. Also, that to remember how strong they were.
-
Wherever you have turned, James, in your short time on this earth, you have been told where you could go and what you could do and how you could do it, where you could live and whom you could marry.
It sad how the limitation the black people had. It is unfair that you addressed as less human being because you were born black.
-
I keep seeing your face, which is also the face of your father and my brother. I have known both of you all your lives and have carried your daddy in my arms and on my shoulders, kissed him and spanked him and watched him learn to walk
It shows how the writer feels pain as he wrote this message by remembered his past and know the difficulties that his brother been through.

Moving from silence into speech is for the oppressed, the colonized, the exploited, and those who stand and struggle side by side a gesture ofdefiance that heals, that makes new life and new growth possible
She symbolized that speaking up is not just for her battle but for others like her by breaking the chain for them and making an environment that women can be listened to.
-
These early trials, wherein I learned to stand my ground, to keep myspirit intact, came vividly to mind after I published A in ’t IA Woman andthe book was sharply and harshly criticized. While I had expected a climateof critical dialogue, I was not expecting a critical avalanche that had thepower in its intensity to crush the spirit, to push one into silence
After publishing her book, one of her challenges was the fear that criticism might silence her. She pointed out that society shows no mercy towards black women, leading to emotional attacks against her.
-
I hid these writings undermy bed, in pillow stuffings, among faded underwear. When my sistersfound and read them, they ridiculed and mocked me— poking fun. I feltviolated, ashamed,
we can feel that the writer found it difficult to write and did so secretly out of fear of the community and her family. She mentioned her sister to illustrate that she was ridiculed by women as well as men.
-
Had I been a boy, they might have encouraged me to speakbelieving that I might someday be called to preach
We can notice that boys and girls treating differently because the voice of girl is not something to work on it on the future.

Now, that’s something, ain’tit? Code meshing use the way people already speak and write and helpthem be more rhetorically effective. It do include teaching some punctua-tion rules, attention to meaning and word choice, and various kinds ofsentence structures and some standard English
This is a summary of what Young believes, and I agree with him because it will help many writers from different backgrounds to be efficient.
-
I’m sho not try-ing to say here that Black English don’t have some rhetorical and gram-matical features that differ from what is termed standard English
The writer explained that he did not get the reasons not to use Black English because there is no considerable difference between it and standard English.
-
cuz this man sho tryin to take thenation back to a time when we were less tolerant of linguistic and racialdifferences.
From the way of writing and using some different spelling, it is clear that the writer shows that everyone should have the freedom to write how he wants, and we shouldn't follow standard writing, as Fish said.

You could feel the heat coming out of my pants,”
It is good to see each person interviewed describe the symptoms differently and agree on how painful it is.

an entire churchful of folks having the same nightmare.
It describes how this disease can be true because all these people come to the church feeling the same pain.
-
fearing the worst is worse than knowing the worst. You eventually start wanting the worst to happen.
I agree with this sentence. For example, if you did badly in the exam, the time between finishing the exam and getting the grade is more painful than the grade itself.
-
“I was so angry at the misdiagnoses for so many years,” she says, “being told that it was anxiety, in my head, female stuff. So I tried to spin that anger into something positive. I got my graduate degree. I published an article in a nursing journal.”
It is great to incorporate quotes from different people in the essay as it enhances credibility and delivers emotion to the reader.

Every time a student sits down to write for us, he has to inventthe university for the occasion-invent the university, that is, ora branch of it, like History or Anthropology
The introduction is excellent, explaining the concept of a university for writing with other subjects to make it easy to understand. Also, it showed that even the writer should learn the university way to earn.

It may v er y well be that som e student s will need to lea rn tocrudely mimic the " dis tin cti ve re gister" of academic disc our sebefor e the y ar e pr epared to actu ally a nd legitimately do th e w ork
I liked this paragraph because it sums up the ideas behind academic writing and how adopting someone's voice is a way of learning.
-
To speak with authorit y studentwriters have not only to speak in another's voice but throughanother's " code"; and they not onl y ha ve to do this , the y haveto speak in the voice and through the codes of those of us withpower and wisdom ;
The writer argued that students don't have a choice at the beginning and need more writing space. Unfortunately, they have to follow people with high power, which causes their voices to be lost.
-
When students are writing for a teacher, writing becomes moreproblematic than it is for the students who are describing baseballto a Martian
Writing to a teacher will require me to follow many rules and try to impress him. On the other hand, writing to a Martian will be easy because I will be free to write whatever I believe.

When I learned, some years ago, that writers were expected to have had really unhappy childhoods to be successful, I began to think about how I could invent horrible things my parents had done to me.
Success doesn't require a type to follow or a hard childhood. It is great to see different models of successful people around the world.

p in Nigeria, and if all I knew about Africa were from popular images, I too would think that Africa was a place of beautiful landscapes, beautiful animals, and incomprehensible people, fighting senseless wars, dying of poverty and AIDS, unable to speak for themselves and waiting to be saved by a kind, white foreigner. I would see Africans in the same way that I, as a child, had seen Fide's family.
This paragraph showed how the media could shape stereotypes and convince people of the truth. We should not believe that one story can represent a considerable community.
-
We didn't have snow, we ate mangoes, and we never talked about the weather, because there was no need to.
We also don't have snow in my country, so the only things we know about it are how magical the snow is and how romantic it is because of the movies. So, When I came here I was surprised that it is not like that and it is scary and causes freezing.
-
All my characters were white and blue-eyed, they played in the snow, they ate apples,
This sentence reminds me of something. When you ask a child from my country about his favorite animal, he will mention the animal doesn't exist in our country because most animal stories come from foreign countries.

Yes, the Chicano and Chicana have always taken care ofgrowing things and the land.

Tex-Mex argot, created by adding asound at the beginning or end of an English word suchcookiar for cook, watchar for watch, parkiar for park, andfor rape, is the result of the pressures on Spanish speak-adapt to English.
The same is happening in North African countries. They made up a language mixed with Arabic and French.

Apart from what any critic had to say about my writing, I knew I had succeeded where it counted when mymother finished reading my book and gave me her verdict: "So easy to read."
Wonderfull conclusion. I liked that she used easy language, and I have more respect for writers using simple language to deliver their message.

Math is precise; there is only one correct answer. Whereas, for me at least, theanswers on English tests were always a judgment call, a matter of opinion and personal experience.
As a non-native speaker, math and physics are much easier than English or the classes that require much reading and memorizing.

You should know that my mother's expressive command of English belies how much she actuallyunderstands
I can relate to this because my first language is not English. I feel the same way. I can understand, but I have a problem with communicating with native speakers.

The fact
I liked this paragraph and how she addressed that even though we have a different background, it always means silence must be broken.

But we have lived through all of those already, in silence, except death
You will be struggling whether you are staying silent or not. Thus, Speak out and share your experience to help yourself and others.

self~determination -the decision to define ourselves, name ourselves, and speak for ourselves, in~ stead of being defined and spoken for by others
Defining yourselves to others will strengthen your word instead of hiding behind other people and waiting for them to decide for you.

always that one little piece inside you that wants to be spoken out, and ifyou keep ignoring it, i; gets m~dder and madder and hotter and hotter, and if you don t speak 1t out one day it will just up and punch you in the mouth from the inside
Silence and never speaking out about something you believe will damage you over time and cause emotional damage.

Annotate the Text with Marginal Notes
This is one of the best ways to keep on track with text and help me remember things better. In my second year at the university, I bought an iPad that helped me quickly make notes during lectures. Thus, it saves me time when studying for the exams and having a better understanding.

What’s the essay about? What do you know about the writer’s background and reputation? Where was the essay first published? Who was the intended audience for the essay? How much do you already know about the subject of the reading selection? We encourage you to review the materials that precede each selection in this book
This a great way of preparing, and I am excited to follow these questions to give me a better understanding of the essay and respect the ideas in the essays. However, I am afraid that it will spoil the essay and make it more predictable.

Assignment List
I appreciate that we have the opportunity to look at the writing assignment for this course with an overview. Thus, it will help us to be prepared.

For us all to do this important work, we need to create a community where it is safe to try and safe to fail in front of one another. I will expect you to treat your classmates with kindness, respect, and understanding. I will expect them to treat you in the same way
This is an important point because I believe that if we respect each other, we will improve our writing and learn new things.
-
Throughout this semester, I encourage you to bring your own personal history and background into class. I will endeavor to bring you texts that come from a range of backgrounds and beliefs that will create fertile ground for new understandings. In the classroom we will have a productive space for you and your classmates to generate ideas together
That is amazing. I am excited to hear stories from different backgrounds. Learning about different beliefs brings people together and helps them quickly understand each other.
