Perhaps this method can be used to append an array? Fill the new value at the last position.

Adaptive Soundtracks in Games
Adaptive music: Responds to events in game. Calm to tense when you enter a battle. Drops back down to calm.
Nintendo is really good at this. In mario, soundtrack remains the same but the instruments used change (signifying a change in environment/place).
In some games, audio speeds up as you accelerate.
