    1. For a few days I would walk around heartsick, like someone who had been unexpectedly broken up with.

      This is something I experience after finishing movies and TV series. Feeling empty.

    1. Does it seem like my career is all over the place? It’s because I am a lifelong learner who has taken lessons big and small to build the career I have today.

      I also relate to this, I first joined some clubs that talked about the anatomy of the human body and medicine, I later transitioned to coding skills and now I'm studying to become a geologist.

    1. Life is a journey and the one I have had at UA has been one of continuing improvement.

      As this is my first semester here at the University of Arizona, I have noticed that I have changed to the better. Becoming more independent and able to manage things by myself.

    1. The relatively small class sizes and dedicated teachers provided an excellent foundational education and I look back on those formative years fondly.

      Having small class sizes allows teachers to help students effectively.

    1. To prevent negative emotions from sabotaging your work, focus on the writing process and not the outcome. After all, answers are not misplaced artifacts to be found but rather rewards to be earned.

      Focusing on the positive aspects is something to utilize so you don't loose focus of your goals.

    1. I had other priorities that felt more important at the time, like waiting on acceptance letters and travel dates to interview for graduate programs.

      Prioritizing things is pretty important, trying to give your all on a certain task is pretty important. However, utilizing one's free time to complete and give your all to complete everything no matter how trivial it seems is something that could lead to success.

    1. My life has come full circle and it was fate — beginning with the name given to me — that has led me to become the “land in between” as I navigate such experiences, not only for myself, but for others just like me.

      My story overlaps a bit with this reading, Its fascinating what stories people have to say about the places they grew up in and lived there.

    1. When you hear “marketplace,” what comes to mind?

      The first thing that comes to mind is the trading of goods between people and a place where people could offer their services.

    1. I want people to share their knowledge with one another, and make things accessible, because, why not?

      Sharing one's experiences with others is a way to help people learn more about you and your background and also lets you reflect on yourself.

    1. to diversify college campuses, higher education sought to bring students from different backgrounds together into one space to interact with and listen to one another; the goal was for everyone to learn from the different cultural orientations that each student brought to the table and to promote racial harmony (Warikoo).

      Banding students from different parts of the world with different backgrounds helps students learn different perspective.

    1. In gathering data — quantitative or qualitative — we must ask ourselves whether what we are measuring is what we value.

      It is really important to know why are we doing a task, is it to benefit us or is it for grades, then you could really understand what you value.

    1. While learning math, have you ever wondered, “will I ever use this”? This question marked a pivotal turning point for me as an undergraduate college student.

      This is a question I used to ask myself a lot before knowing the true meaning of quantitative reasoning, which is the use of critical thinking skills while traveling, investing or even buying grocieries.

    1. Words are power; words are life; words are connection. I encourage you to find your own voice — your own way with words — and to use that skill to make your own impactful way in the world.

      This basically sums up the Gen Ed experience which is helping you know yourself.

    1. I saw writing as a transaction of my thoughts to earn a grade.

      This is a problem that many people don't realize. They complete assignments just because they'll receive a grade for it without learning the actual meaning of the assignment.

    1. I left that course with a better understanding of myself, how individuals weigh impossible choices

      This is the benefit of Gen Ed classes, it is to help you know yourself better.

    1. we need interdisciplinarians.

      Being a person that can work within multiple fields and apply multiple perspective to a singular problem is beneficial. It's like looking at a problem with a 360 degree camera view.

    1. Traveling allowed me to step outside myself and my comfort zone and observe a variety of perspectives and ways of living.

      This is something I can relate to, When I first traveled to America. Stuff here was different from the place where I grew up and I had a hard time getting used to living here on my own. However, this opened new perspectives for me and made me meet new people.

    1. Life is everywhere, it’s relevant to everyone, and we need multiple perspectives to understand better what it means to define it one way or another for ourselves and others.

      Being a natural scientist and being curious about the things around you is something important that gets your brain working. It helps you understand simple concepts that you are bound to use in the future.

    1. I have learned to consider the humanity of the person with whom I disagree, learned to be intentional about amplifying the voices that often go unheard, and learned to challenge my own thought processes and find the fallacies in my own logic

      Understanding the other side of an argument is something that many people should adapt to do whenever they disagree with another person.

    1. The artist’s perspective can offer such disruptive solutions that help shape how we think and act on our legal rights.

      Thinking creatively is something that many people lack nowadays. People believe that to do something correctly you have to follow a systematic approach.

    1. Being a social scientist means living life continuously intrigued and surprised by the widely diverse answers humans give to the most important questions.

      Building your skills as a social scientist is something that is bound to benefit you in the longs run. Living and wondering about the things that happens around you.

    1. The opportunity to explore relevant, real-life systems in a hands-on and interactive environment stimulated my passions and renewed my interest in science as my career choice.

      I also had a similar experience of hating my chem classes. I used to understand things in theory and wonder how would this help me in the real life. One of the lessons that made no sense to me was titration (trying to find the concentration of a substance). This made no sense to me until I took lab classes and understood the practical use of this.

    1. Humanists are inherently connectional, always striving to see how the values and meanings of human life link up with the values and meanings ascribed to other peoples and cultures, plants and animals, the planet, and the space beyond our atmosphere.

      Connecting with the things around you is something that seems trivial until it's not. Understanding the people around you and trying to learn their takes/perspectives on things helps you become someone more understanding. It also helps you build connections for the future.

    1. That is, until eighth grade when my teacher took a new approach to teaching math. She used charts, graphs, and plot points to provide clarity for learning math through spatial relationships between objects as well as the shape of single objects.

      This also reminds me when one of my teachers in high school took the same approach in math. Trying to make us understand why the phenomenon happens instead of giving us bland numerical values.

    1. Both perspectives are true and accurate. Combine them and you’ll know more about the car than someone who’s only looked at it from a single angle.

      Something that I try to apply in almost all situations is trying to understand all the different perspectives available to combine them to understand the most out of a single topic.

    1. What I gained in the course that remains relevant, applicable, and transferrable was not a computer programming language, but that I was able to develop an understanding of how a computer programmer thinks, approaches problems, and develops solutions.

      As the author realized that he isn't going to use his programming skills in the near future, he also gained other things like soft skills and experience where he could apply those skills to other fields.

    1. During these experiences, I learned more about myself, what motivates my learning, and how to choose classes that align with my personal learning goals.

      Aligning yourself with what you love/enjoy is something that'll help you succeed in life instead of being miserable.

      Following your curiosity is something that takes a lot of nerve to do. What if something goes wrong, what if I don't like the results. You would never know unless you try it.

    1. It turns out that, while quite different, wonder and curiosity often intertwine and animate each other.

      Something that stuck out to me was that when I was writing my wonder Journal, I noticed how my wonders and curiosities often intertwined. Wondering about something is being curious.

    1. What you wonder has value. It can shape your academic studies, provide guidance for your career, and — as in the above example — enhance your personal life and interests.

      Wondering how to improve in life is something that's going to help you in the long run. Having something to dedicate your time to increase your understanding of yourself is important.

    1. we now live in an era of “outrage culture” where emotions and fear run high and where individuals are personally attacked for their views rather than being able to debate their ideas.

      I believe that everyone has the right to state their mind about a subject no matter how sensitive/controversial the topic is. Instead of harming people about their opinions, you could try to change their perspective with words and make them understand where you are coming from.

    1. Any time a student cuts corners, like receiving unauthorized help, fabricating a document, failing to correctly cite, or simply cheating, that student acts academically dishonest. This type of behavior threatens the value of hard work, a student’s reputation, and the quality of a student’s degree.

      Anytime a student cheats, the only thing he's doing is cheating himself. Not knowing crucial information will result in you not being prepared for future courses.

    1. During my interview, I detailed ways to support community-building for post-traditional students and insisted that I could be as involved from afar as I could be on campus. For one year I served as the Director of Communications before becoming the club’s President.

      This signifies innovation in her leadership skills. As an online student, she contributed significantly to the club and later became the president. As an online student who achieved significant leadership goals within the club, she is a role model for other students

    1. While I loved learning (I still do) and took my coursework seriously, I didn’t see the connections between what I was learning and what I wanted to do for a career, which at the time was to become a family therapist.

      At the beginning, the author didn't see the connection between general education and what it had in store for his career as a family therapist. However, as time progressed, he recognized the value of what general education brought to him and how it contributed to his development as a writer and reader.

    1. I always felt like I was crossing an invisible threshold between the Tucson I knew and the academic world that was still foreign to me.

      This sentence holds great significance of Martinez's cultural and academic transitions. She talks about her personal identity working in her father's factory and how her ancestors' predate the University of Arizona. She brought her background and integrated it with the life of being a student at UA

    1. Many times I downplay my many accomplishments because I simply do not want to be in the limelight.

      Many people strive to be in the center of the spotlight at all times. This is not only wrong, it also fatigues you in unimaginable ways. This creates unnecessary stress of the expectations you would have on yourself to achieve this. Normalizing your achievements would help you balance your life and obtain internal satisfaction.

    1. I’ve learned to live in the moment and redefine what success is.

      Learning to "live in the moment" is one of the best thing anyone could do. This not only makes you happier but also relieves stress. Instead of focussing on the far future, focus on what's within your reach. It helps you enjoy the future and allows you to become the best version of yourself at the moment.

    1. I was also teaching these things to my group, as well as learning their techniques.

      Giving and taking from one another is one of the best ways to become successful in life. For example, you might be capable of managing the finances of a restaurant, however, you are not able to lead and train the staff. Finding a partner to fill in your weak spots would help the restaurant thrive.

    1. Reflective writing begins as a recounting of what has occurred and quickly turns into your own rich and insightful analysis of what the event means within its larger context.

      Journalling is one of many methods to recollect your thoughts and analyze them in a better manner. Mind mapping, meditation, and physical exercises are my favorite ways on reflecting and analyzing my thoughts. A bike ride helps me clear my mind to obtain better and heightened mental clarity.

    1. When you don’t understand the “why” of something, it can be difficult to maintain the motivation to get it done.

      Understanding why something is important and in what ways it will benefit you in the long run will help oneself understand the necessity behind something even if it seems trivial at first.

    1. What has been your experience reflecting on and making meaning of these learning moments?

      I believe that reflecting consistently on experiences all the time no matter how trivial they seem is an important way of thinking and a great way for self improvement. Reflecting on what you did and how you gained from this experience and in what ways you can improve in the future.
