    1. . That proper distribution would involve not just cleaner, ultimately decarbonized technologies—these are necessary but not sufficient. We would also have to redefine work itself to include all the activities now called social reproduction,

Social reconstruction/reproduction is exactly what needs to happen in today's society. For example a police reform would change this word in a tremendous way. The police department was built out of hate and not to protect all people only a particular race. This needs to be reformed to change the purpose and conduct of the police so senseless killing can stop. Also, for all citizens to feel safe and protected when encountering the police.

    2. Or maybe we should just give up entirely on optimism or pessimism—we have to do this work no matter how we feel about it. So by force of will or the sheer default of emergency we make ourselves have utopian thoughts and ideas.

I wonder what a world like would be like

    3. These days I tend to think of dystopias as being fashionable, perhaps lazy, maybe even complacent, because one pleasure of reading them is cozying into the feeling that however bad our present moment is, it’s nowhere near as bad as the ones these poor characters are suffering through.

I sometimes find myself thinking this exact way when watching or reading dystopias

    4. There are a lot of dystopias around these days, and this makes sense, because we have a lot of fears about the future.

The future is a constant thought that creates fear because you want things in the future to go right or be "perfect".This way of thinking creates dystopias because you are trying so hard to create perfection it creates the opposite

    1. Competition·: This equality of ability produces equalityof hope for the attaining of our goals.

Having equality of ability is seen as a threat in our society instead of everyone obtaining their goals only one person can win.

    1. speeches of Mussolini, whose most significant passages we memorized in school. Silence.Mimo spoke in a hoarse voice, barely audible. He said: "Citizens, friends. After so manypainful sacrifices . . . here we are. Glory to those who have fallen for freedom." And thatwas it. He went back inside. The crowd yelled, th

For his speeches to be so significant and taught in school, that is not what I expected him to say.

    2. l 1945, the partisans took over in Milan. Two days later they arrived in the smalltown where I was living at the time. It was a moment of joy. The main square wascrowded with people singing and waving flags, calling in loud voices for Mimo, thepartisan leader of that area.

Why are people cheering? How was this a moment of joy?

    1. seems certain that we do not feel comfortable in our present-day civilization, but it is very difficult to form an opinion whether and in what degree men of an earlier age felt happier and what part their cultural conditions played in the matter.

Is the question about the happiness of the men before to prove a point that there may have never been a civilization full of only happiness ?

    2. his if this stronger man should in his turn meet someone even stronger than he. Human life in common is only made possible when a majority comes together which is stronger than any separate individual and which remains united against all separate individuals.

I agree we would be stronger together if we stayed united.

    3. the manner in which the relationships of men to one another, their social relationships, are regulated ȯ relationships which affect a person as a neighbour, as a source of help, as another personȂs sexual object, as a member of a family and of a State

I agree this is very important, if we try to understand a person better and befriend them it would be very beneficial.

    4. it is a certain fact that all the things with which we seek to protect ourselves against the threats that emanate from the sources of suffering are part of that very civilization.

Adding to my other note about the police, another way to look at this is they are doing their jobs. They're protecting themselves against the threat, in this country, the biggest threat would be an African American. For years we've been painted as the enemy, less than human, takers, etc. This aligns with "the threats that emanate from the sources of suffering" which is the story for a lot of black people they are a product of their environment.

    5. t is a certain fact that all the things with which we seek to protect ourselves against the threats that emanate from the sources of suffering are part of that very civilization.

I completely agree. The biggest example of this is the police department, their job is to serve and protect. However, when a black person gets pulled over they're treated differently and have to hear things like " PUT YOUR HANDS ON THE DASHBOARD". Whereas other races don't usually experience this.

    6. his contention holds that what we call our civilization is largely responsible for our misery, and that we should be much happier if we gave it up and returned to primitive conditions.

The civilization we have created is the reason for our own misery. It has created corruption, greed, envy, and the list goes on.

    7. This recognition does not have a paralysing effect. On the contrary, it points the direction for our activity.

Recognition is a good thing to do to be able to know what you need to improve on

    1. Oppression refers to structural phenomena that immobilize or diminish a group.

In my opinion this is a great definition! I find it funny that when you do look up oppressed on the internet it hard to find something similar to this definition

    2. major political project for those of us who identify with at least one of these movements must thus be to persuade people that the discourse of opprss10n makes sense of much of our social experience

This made me think about how hard you have to fight in this country for equal rights. Which is overall ridiculous. I wish we could have a better system for us to coexist.

    3. Many people in the United States would not choose the term "oppression" to name injustice in our society.

I agree with this statement because a lot of Americans won't admit that the system is built in favor for the majority.
