    1. Don’t let him know she liked them best,For this must ever beA secret, kept from all the rest,Between yourself and me.

This whole poem!! What is Caroll confessing to here? Was there an affair between him and Alice Liddell's mother? And is there something going on between him and Alice Liddell?

    2. Ah, my dear ! Let this bea lesson to you never to lose yourtemper !”“Hold your tongue, Ma !” said the young crab

Throughout the book, Caroll has a lot of characters shunning Alice from saying what she feels, as though, one should repress their emotions. Here, Caroll seems to be making fun of the whole "the moral of the story" concept that is present in fairytales. We see the young crab is using a moral he has learned from fairytales to critique his mother. If children are to follow moral of the stories, the same should apply to adults.

    3. I almost think I can remember feeling a littledifferent. But if I ’m not the same, the nextquestion is, Who in the world am I

    4. To beg a tale of breath too weakTo stir the tiniest feather !Yet what can one poor voice availAgainst three tongues together ?

This poem sets the stage for us to read the story, while painting a picture of the origins of Alice's Adventures in Wonderland and how it came to be. As a tale reluctantly told to 3 children, while having a day of leisure.
