      When people mention "walls" in the context of emotions they often mean walls to protect themselves from being emotionally hurt by others. The narrator wants to know if its worth putting a wall up to protect themselves.

      hunters take and kill and injure and hurt. The narrator is dealing with the after math of being hurt by another person.

      the main repeated message is rephrased in a way to add difficulty or struggle to the meaning. "Not too hard" implies a person needs to gain something or someone they care about in their life in order to experience loss later on.

      clearly meant towards a person whether the person died of a realtionship ended or even a part of themselves they felt like they lost. Its easier than people think to lose someone or something.

      losses start to blend together with the quick passage of time despite both the loss of the mothers watch and the movement of houses being both highly sentimental.

      As life went on and the narrator moved throughout their lifetime they moved three times leaving behind memories in each past home.

      We prepare ourselves to lose certain things in life and learn to expect loss so we get less hurt when it happens.

    1. No one ever thanked him

      Represents gender roles in a way. Men were expected to do labor type work to support their families. In societies eyes hes not to be thanked because its expected of him as a father.

    2. splintering, breaking.

      both synonyms of eachother that are repeated to add signficance to the idea of breaking. Makes the father seem like a powerful figure in a way. As if he adjusts the cold to his needs.

    3. austere

      meaning strict in manner or apperance. Due to childhood treatment the narrartor may have developed their own definition of love and see it as a strict and respect/fear based thing.

    4. who had driven out the cold

      in the previous line the narrator spoke of "speaking indifferently" to their father. They most likely feel like they must respect him because he provides for the famiy even though he is abusive.

      high amounts of teamwork has been practiced between these two people reffered to as brothers. implies how close they are as people and as players.

    2. in slow motion,

      Tense and focus needing moments in life tend to feel like they slow down. Shows again the plays focus and how they underatand the importance of this moment.

    3. gathering the orange leather    from the air like a cherished possession

      "a cherished possesion" the ball means more than just the game. Its a purpose and a skill. A parallel to life and keeping close people and things that are important to you.
