    1. It has become fashionable to deride today’s tech C.E.O.s for their grandiose ambitions: colonizing Mars, curing all human disease, digging a world-class tunnel. But shouldn’t we prefer these outsized delusions to the moral impoverishment of Welch’s era?

      The assumption being made here is that the grandiose ambition is real and not cover for moral impoverishment. Long-termism is the example: how many of them truly care about 3000AD humans vice how many want a justification to squeeze profits out of 2022 humans? We don't know for sure.

      This is a question also expressed in "The Talent Code" about soccer in Brazil among other physical scenes.

      The author there suggests there is also an element of training practice: excellent scenes (knowingly or not) develop methods that improve the quality of practice and of learning.
