    1. The goal is ambitious. The challenges are real.

I personally think there should be legal restriction on the amount of sugars, and carbs something contains, there are carbohydrates banned across the world that for some reason are still legal to sell and consume in America.

    1. The American Beverage Association announced last week that it wants to reduce calorie intake from beverages by 20% over the next 11 years.

Most people don't realize how unhealthy our lives really are, If you looked at the lives humans evolved to live, and handle. We are killing ourselves, causes of cancer, strokes, heart attacks, etc. Are all from our live style, and changing the way we live would help more than any kind of pill.

    1. The subject matter is very important if we are going to understand other people and other societies.

To teach any kind of cultural study, you have to discuss religion. There's no way around the Catholic church if you want a solid education on Medieval Europe. Religion is culture, and religious studies, and cultural studies, are different. I think cultural studies have been pinned against the wall recently with the Church v. State discussions, and they need to be lifted.

    2. The implications of the way we, as teachers, censor ourselves are far-reaching and frightening.

I wouldn't go as far as to call it "frighting" but, it has gotten to the point i would call it absolutely ridiculous. I see no problem in the teaching of the largest moral culture, one of the largest state powers, and the longest lasting/largest religion in all of history, Christianity. It's a piece of human history. When discussing our past as a society, it is almost impossible to work around Christianity without leaving huge chunks of history left unattended, and unaddressed.

    1. Student-initiated prayer at school assemblies is unconstitutional even if the prayer is non-proselytizing and nonsectarian.xiv

My school has student led prayer at assemblies before every large school event, or this year a student passed away, and we had a long event committed to it. There's no reason this shouldn't be permitted. If my principle wants the school to pay their respects to a classmate, I see no reason why we shouldn't be legally permitted to. If it doesn't effect school work, and students, teachers, and administration have no problem with it. Then there should be no legal problem with it in my opinion.

    2. A school district's policy of permitting student-led, student-initiated prayer before football games is unconstitutional.vii It is also unconstitutional for a school official, including a coach, to initiate, lead, or participate in a team in prayer. viii Nor may a school official ask a team member or any other student to initiate or lead a prayer before, during or after a public or school-sponsored athletic activity or event.ix It is also unconstitutional for a member of the clergy to offer prayers before or after public school athletic activities or events.x Voluntary prayer presented and led by students without official permission or sanction may be constitutional, provided that it is not coercive in any way.

Personally, (even though I am a Deist) I loved the school prayers before games. The man who always did was so emotional about it, and then the band would play the football boys in. It really set a strong feeling to the game, theres no reason this shouldn't be legally permitted. Footballs king in my small southern town, and praying is a traditional thing.

    3. It is also critical to ensure that the religious activity is actually student-initiated, and that no school employee supervises or participates in the activity.

I can understand the issue with employees pressuring, or forcefully engaging students in religious activities. However I do not understand why there is a problem with teachers joining prayers, and activities that have already begun.

    1. He said this even though the Constitution explicitly forbids a religious test to hold a public office like a judgeship. That's Article Six. You can check that yourself.

Yes, even I don't have the ability to support Bush. Most republicans won't even claim him. He made some very bad choices, and was a terrible war-time president. Not the most controversial president of the 2000's but easily the runner up.

    2. but not being taught.

There is no reason young minds should be deprived from the teaching of the evolution of man, and there is no reason teachers can not lead school prayer. These arguments are pointless, and no matter how hard either side fights, it will never be resolved.

    3. And he said, I believe everything in this Bible.

There are plenty of good stories in the Bible. While I am a Deist(or something of the sort, not really an Atheist because I do believe there is a creator), I do not believe in the Bible, and I would be speechless if someone can read the entire book, and take it for what it means, and tell me they believe it. There are stories in the bible which make no sense, and are ridiculous, but there are others which are beautiful, and significant. I do not believe this man believes absolutely everything in that book.

    4. And it felt like I was a caged animal.

Personally I believe this teacher is making this a larger deal than it should be. She's talking about it like he was holding a gun to her, and saying "say evolutions fake". However that was not the case.

    1. I wanted to put my arm around him, and tell him what he always told me, “Don’t worry Dad, tomorrow will be a better day.” This, I believe.

This is a very hard hitting, and strong ending. Following what "Knowing" did and being subtle but making a remark that was meaningful, and significant to the writer. As the reader It felt like a solid place to end.

    2. so worried about what the future holds for me and my generation

As all of our generation should be. I wouldn't describe my generation as the downfall to society, but i would very easily make the relation of the downfall of America being directly related to us.

    3. I believe tomorrow will be better than today – that the world my generation grows into is going to get better, not worse. Those pictures helped me understand why.

In modern society, we are losing grip on reality. The next generation is causing a downfall on itself and it can't grit its teeth and try hard enough to fix problems which are real. Not social justice warriors, and being politically correct. Problems that are looking us in the eye, and we choose to ignore.

    1. So, anyone with a love for truth outside of herself has to start with no belief in God

If you are taught from a very small child "God exists and that's that, period" you'll take that to your grave, you believe it's truth if you're taught that bluntly it is truth. You can have love for the truth, and believe stuff others believe is false. On the subject of religion there is no right or wrong, true or false. It's opinion until someone brings me hard, solid, unbreakable evidence he is existent or non.

    2. Believing there is no God gives me more room for belief in family, people, love, truth, beauty, sex, Jell-O and all the other things I can prove and that make this life the best life I will ever have.

This is very backwards, believing there is no God just takes away from your believes. Believes cannot be measured, and you have as much room as you could possibly want to believe. And those who believe in God just get more happiness from their faith. While you may feel this way, this was not something you should have put in this essay to sway opinions.

    3. No God means the possibility of less suffering in the future.

It's a choice to have faith in the lord or, to not believe in one at all. I am personally an atheist but, with or without a God pain, suffering, and evil will still continue. It is impossible to have a top without a bottom, you think and there is nothing in existence that has a top without a bottom or, a bottom without a top. There is no good without bad, No matter if you do, or don't believe in god. Evil is not his fault, and blaming it on him is a very blind thing to do.
