I can connect to her because my mothers English wasn't clear, but I wasn't ashamed of her because in the place we lived everyone spoke Spanish so she had no need to learn it, until we moved to an area with more then one language.
-
My mom dosnt know much english herself but I try to teach her some and know what some words mean. She started to speak a little bit of it, i guess i can relate.
-

On page 40 the second paragraph says that they will no longer be ashamed of speaking their native language and will not be ashamed to have more then one ethnicity.
-
pg.35 It says in the first paragraph on page 35 that “nosotras” is used for male and female for chicanos.
-
pg.34 “Who is to say that robbing a people of its language is less violent tan war?” This reminds me of a video that I saw on social media that some old women were telling a Spanish speaking person to speak in English because they are in America so they have to speak in English. The person got made and told the ladies that if it is his native language he will speak it.

This reading strategy, which you will learn about in Chapter 2, involves going paragraph by para-graph noticing what each paragraph says—its content—and what each does—its function
It is a good strategy to learn when having to be reading in depth text, and knowing what each paragraph, phrases, and words mean.
