I disagree with this claim because it is strictly opinion based. Sports may mean nothing to one person but may be what someone else lives for.

College football will not make me spiritually fulfilled or morally superior. But it can, and does, make me happy.
I personally relate to this. Knowing that their is a good football game helps me get through the week. When I watch the games it gives me a feeling of joy and happiness almost like a kid on their birthday.
