I like using the term theme to generally encapsulate what a game is attempting to accomplish. Games offer a plethora of objectives and freedom, so often there are many things that can divert from linear rail so to speak. While this freedom is important, there also must be a general theme to keep the rails aligned so to speak.

    1. Though certainly not as common a mechanic as in traditional Americanboard games, there are still designer games that use dice to control movement. The differenceis that the designer games often give players a higher level of control over either the dice beingrolled or what happens as a result of the roll.

Mario Party is a great example of this. Players have the option to roll a traditional die, or they can use their player-character unique die. For example, Shy Guy's dice roll incorporates five sides of 4 and one of 0. While you will never be able to roll a 5 or better, statistically you have a great chance to steadily move across the board 4 spaces at a time.

    1. The challenge was a bit crazy, but he learned French vocabulary in only nine weeks. He’s a fighting machine. To him words are just combinations of letters. I’m perhaps exaggerating a bit, but he comes up with scrabbled (words of seven or more letters) that others take 10 years to know.

This is just mind-boggling to think of. I can not imagine being able to memorize the vocabulary in that capacity, much less perform on a stage such as the championships on an expert level.

    1. There are two different ways to look at semiotic domains:internally and ex-ternally

Keeping this in mind as we continue in readings will be important. Analyzing the difference of our internal and external semiotic domains will help us to understand even further.

    2. If our modern, global, high-tech,and science-driven world does anything, it certainly gives rise to new semi-otic domains and transforms old ones at an ever faster rate.

Technology everyday creates new semiotic domains. Growing with the times and adapting to new technology also inherently means adopting the new semiotic domains that come with it.

    1. consider game design activities in your professional context

I am personally interested in getting into design myself as my career advances, so I am excited to undergo this exercise as I can think critically and apply the semester in to my career path. I believe this will be an introspective exercise that will benefit me heavily.
