    1. In what ways do you see capitalism, socialism, and other funding models show up in the country you are from or are living in?

I see capitalism very frequently in the US. It can be seen especially well in the business models of companies right now, where everything becomes monetized to the point where one has to pay a lot of money to get an ad-free service.

    1. What do you consider to be the most important factors in making an instance of public shaming bad?

I think the degree to which someone is shamed is a factor. Another factor is how bad the offense that the person committed was. If it were objectively bad, a certain degree of shaming can be expected.

    1. Crowdsourcing. December 2023. Page Version ID: 1188348631. URL:

Crowdsourcing is when a group of participants disperses the collective work it would take to complete something amongst themselves and is then able to complete the task more efficiently and effectively. Frequently, their task is some sort of product that requires many people to ponder over it at the same time. Crowdsourcing is also not limited to online examples. and has been around for much of human history.

    1. In what ways do you think you’ve participated in any crowdsourcing online?

I've played video games where everyone was participating in an objective that would complete some greater thing beyond the scale of what we could do on our own. Completing these objectives was a collective commuinity effort and was only accomplished because everyone did their part.

    1. David Gilbert. Facebook Is Ignoring Moderators’ Trauma: ‘They Suggest Karaoke and Pa

A Facebook moderator enjoyed her job but, during the pandemic, did not want to go to work in person due to her mother having heart issues that made COVID a more serious problem for her. When she had to go in anyway, she suffered mental health issues, which the company ignored.

    1. What is your take on the ethical trade-offs of unpaid Reddit moderators? What do you think Reddit should do?

I understand why Reddit mods think that they deserve to be paid due to the level of service that they're providing for the platform. However, I also understand the position of Reddit, as they are giving power to the users and shouldn't have to spend money on it, and paid mods could lead to some people abusing their power.

    1. Have you ever reported a post/comment for violating social media platform rules?

I have not made a post that has violated a social media platform's rules. I have however tried to create usernames in video games and my proposed names have been dissallowed for some reason or another. This can be because a name has some profanity, or that there are words within the username that could spell out something the game doesn't want you to spell.

    1. Anya Kamenetz. Facebook's own data is not as conclusive as you think about teens and mental health. NPR, October 2021. URL: https://www.npr.org/20

Gathering data on how social media affects kids can be tricky, as much of the data comes from self-reported teenagers who are being told by the world around them that social media is bad for them, yet they continue to use it. Overall, data on social media use can be conflicting, as it is a relatively new concept, and some reports say it is beneficial, while others say it is harmful for teens.

    1. In what ways have you found social media bad for your mental health and good for your mental health?

Social Media is good for my health in that it lets me communicate with people whom I might not be able to see every day, and it is an easy way to stay in touch with what is happening in the world. It can be bad both in that it is addictive, and when I see people having fun when I'm not, it creates a feeling of missing out.

    1. Would you like something you do or say to go viral? { requestKernel: true, binderOptions: { repo: "binder-examples/jupyter-stacks-datascience", ref: "master", }, codeMirrorConfig: { theme: "abcdef", mode: "python" }, kernelOptions: { name: "python3", path: "./ch12_virality" }, predefinedOutput: true }

I don't think I'd like anything I do to go viral. I'm not the kind of person who appreciates attention from people I don't know, so if people in public started to recognize me from some internet thing, I would be very freaked out.

    1. What incentives to social media companies have to violate privacy?

They get money from selling the information of their users to other companies. They will also be able to use more targeted ads if they use all the information they have about a user, and if the user buys something, they make more money from that purchase.

    1. Assassination of Martin Luther King Jr. November 2023. Page Version ID: 1186577416. URL:

This was a letter sent by the FBI to Martin Luther King Jr. It was sent to him in 1964 and detailed alleged sexual indiscretions that were committed by King. The letter implied that King should kill himself because his shame about his crimes should be too great for him to live with.

    1. What do you think is the best way to deal with trolling?

I think that websites should just be very strict and ban people who do not follow the guidelines. If the moderation on a website is strict, it makes it much harder for a trolling culture to develop and thrive. As long as there is a zero tolerance policy for bullying, trolling on a website should be kept to a minimum.

    1. Shannon Bond. Elon Musk wants out of the Twitter deal. It could end up costing at least $1 billion. NPR, July 2022. URL: https://www.npr.org/2022/07/08/1110539504/twitter-elon-musk-deal-jeopardy (visited on 2023-11-24).

Elon Musk entered a merger agreement with Twitter's board that said that if he tried to back out of buying Twitter, he could be liable for up to a billion dollars. But despite this, he's potentially setting himself up to back out of the deal, citing Twitter's bot presence being too high (which Twitter denies).

    1. Relationship status

Relationship status would be the easiest set of data to store out of the available options. The constraints placed could be that users are either in relationships or not, and it could be measured in a Boolean, showing either true or false to the status of users.

    1. When one of us ran the program, who made those posts (me? you? the bot?)?

I think that the post was made as a collective effort from everyone. The person who wrote the code is responsible for creating the framework for which the post was made. I'm responsible for the details of the code, as I put in my login information and made the bot say what I want. And the bot is also partly responsible, as it carried out the actions and was ultimately the reason that a post was made.

    1. harmony

Taoism is also about reaching harmony through self-cultivation. This is an important aspect to keep in mind when thinking about Taoism, as the improvement of the self is held in higher regard than any communal improvement, and when applied to social media, this might make for more of an individualistic framework as opposed to those who focus entirely on the common good.
