    1. my miserable life! Take me away from this filth into which I’m sinking

Now that it’s dawned on her that he is a user, she is quite the opposite. The opposite of how confident and unbothered by others opinions she was. this is an interesting turn. And he was so calm and shy now he’s very aggressive. He isn’t using vulgar language at least to today standards but he’s very pointed with his words

    1. No,

I was Recently telling my friend about the responsibility that comes with not only being black in black space but the responsibility that you feel in white spaces. For example when race issues are raised in my community with black and black issues i feel Moved to respond as an innate responsibility of mine with care. If these issues involve white and black relations i feel weird and often respond more offended than calmly. But then i also Remember the responsibility i have to represent my community. It can be very stressful just trying to fight for equality without looking like a stereotype especially to the ones who created the stereotypes. Another example of the “responsibility” blacks have to live up to when sometimes we just want to exist with out all of the extra weight that come from what is survival to us. We are expected to both survive and yet thrive in the face of adversity.

    2. Then

This may be a ramble but i think the movie Nope by Jordan peele depicts this perfectly. The horse ranchers are famous in Hollywood but treated like objects and the idea of spectacle vs action was used to enforce the ideas of exploration vs exploitation. This is the same idea that is shown with the director in the movie if anyone has seen it. This is basically saying that if it benefits or doesn’t offend you in a certain way you can exploit it but if it doesn’t align with how you want to portray yourself as non minority your allowed to act like it never happened. The reference both race relations and pc culture.

    1. How

Him being able to get so drunk is a metaphor for two things. One can be the fact that black people are numb to pain being persecuted so much. so we often use alcohol which is frequently marketed to our communities to cope, so he has a higher tolerance. Also the fact that him being a black man doesn’t allow him to show his drunk side in the fear he may be judged or far worse. Where as playwright can be as drunk as he want because of the perception of it when it’s a white person.

    2. from it

This reminded me of Drolo53’s comment about mental health and how effective it is. It made me think of not only the mental health system but also how effective it is for black people. And how black issues may be viewed differently by white therapists. So almost like a nurture vs nature idea which is more important the science or the experience. Should black people try to have black therapists or how im[or rant are therapists.

    3. Basically,

This reminded me of candy man . Candy man was murdered by having bees stuffed in his wounded and orifices by his slave master for dating a white woman. Maybe the bees here represent how when black people complain to the authorities their suffocated in loo of or maybe in spite of ever receiving help.

    1. to gi,veawayyourday

This is very selfless of Bruce to string her along

And maybe this is why she had such anger for her dad because treated the mom like a trophy or didn’t consider her emotions

    2. still pretty wiped out from last.we

It’s a weird dynamic seeing her shut her mom out when she was mad at her dad for the same thing does she believe she can’t handle the idea of her sexuality or they can’t relate anymore

    3. MEDIUMAUSON. Why are you telling me this and not Dad

Because this was his way of avoiding the explanation and for him to reveal he was ok with her lifestyle without sharing the information or admitting to something he hated within himself

    4. can't say, thoug

This was sad because I was reading this thinking he hadn’t come to terms with his sexuality. Maybe because he viewed himself as not gay but straight with a preference for men and not gay he didn’t think she needed to do the same. But maybe we can argue he had system that worked for him. Although it killed him I know that’s not the message of the playwright but still I think the message can also be we don’t always know peoples intent.

    5. the one you did, Dadd

This part reminded of the way we try to please our parent and also inherit their traumas from their childhood. Maybe her being a person who colored out of the lines didn’t sit well with her father. Maybe he was upset with himself for always following rules. Maybe this can be scene for a metaphor for homosexuality. And him wanting to be aesthetically pleasing for other where as she wanted to be herself. Maybe that killed him in the end his lack of individuality

    6. BRUCE. Every other girl at this party is going to be w

This part of the scene made me realize that Bruce was a victim of the closet not an agent participant. He used the closet as a protective blanket or maybe even as a way to be accepted within the via gendered world he lived in. However this isn’t even a rebellion for his daughter who is still exploring her sexuality and not even sure how she want to represent her self as not a lesbian but a queer woman

    7. interested

I think the playwright used this scene also to show how marginalized queer people are even within the queer community. The idea of something being inherently queer means that maybe her father is queer friendly. Her father as a cus straight man couldn’t possibly be interested in queer literature. One can also argue that no literature unless scientific is “queer” and we have to view things as just stories without biases

    8. Dismissiveeyeroll

This was when she realized that portraying her father in a certain way may make her look a certain way or from a certain background. She also does want to trauma dump on a potential friend. I say friend because she’s obliviously flustered by the closeness and not sure how to respond to it. I think she’s also judging her father because maybe he was so cold with her but I think as a child she didn’t get a chance to learn her fathers colorful side. But the opposite can be argued that her father doesn’t have a colorful side

    9. Monster-chargi,ngthekids.)Raaahr!

Ok does he have split personalities. Or is he battling with his inner insecurities so he’s not sure how to show emotions. Or maybe even his closeted behavior make his not won’t to show affection because he believe that will reveal to much of his secrets

    10. Please god, don't let me be a lesbian. Ple

As a queer person it’s interesting to see one lesbians perspective on finding herself. And the battle she had within herself. I wonder if she knew her dad was gay at this point. And if she was interlining his pain on herself. Maybe she didn’t want to be like her father. I can only imagine the turmoil she was going through not understanding ones sexuality

    11. reading too much into this? May

I know annoying as a director or maybe even as a audience member I should assume thing but I don’t know in my opinion maybe it was aright if passage because he could’ve just asked her for the scissors or stoped what he was doing and got them for his self. But I could also argue that why didn’t he say something then. This made me think of the many questions we have for our parents that we never get answers to.

    12. sh:t

This song was weird I saw a performance and it was very upbeat and happy like. But a lot of these things if you’ve dealt with death, will know that they can be very depressing. So for them to be singing so happily it was very confusing. It made me think that Allison may have internalized this behave or attitude towards tragedy. This accompanied with her lgbtd fathers trauma could not have been easy for her
