Great institutions traditionally need traumas – wars or pandemics – to force them to change.
Do you think this is true? What changes have you seen in other institutions as a result of the trauma of the pandemic (or possibly from one of many wars in recent years)?

All universities should in some sense be “open”, their teaching no longer exclusive and their distinctive qualities lying in their socialisation, particularly in student and teacher interaction.
With this, at least, I agree. But who will pay to keep these Universities "open", both literally and conceptually?

As content, a lecture is no different from an article or a book.
Is this actually true? Or to put it more helpfully, what is true about this statement and what is not true?

Please, in this thread, list any evidence of research (i.e. citations) that the author actually provides for this claim in the article. I'll wait.

They seemingly prefer to have to attend a draughty lecture hall at a fixed time and snooze through a ritual hour of note-taking, as if attending high mass.
There is a rhetorical move happening here: is this what the students actually say they prefer? The actual petition suggests otherwise: read it here.
