    1. In the 1980’s, Dr. McIlhaney observed that many women needed infertility and cancer treatments resulting from sexually transmitted diseases (STDs) they had acquired years earlier

Purpose. The purpose of this entire non-profit comes from the fact that Mcllhaney truly cared about how women who weren't educated were going through so much and didn't understand what it was. This is a great purpose and coincides with the fact that it is a non profit organization.

    2. Joe S. McIlhaney, Jr., MD, is a board-certified obstetrician/gynecologist who resides in Plano, Texas

This is the founder of the entire cite/company, and after researching you find that Mcllhaney is a board-certified and actually has credibility towards what he does.

    1. Because biological sex is far more complicated than XX or XY (or XXY, or just X). XX individuals could present with male gonads. XY individuals can have ovaries.

8.This is a claim of fact due to the fact that it is a fact that it is possible for biological sex to be more complicated than XX or XY. The author uses science that prove the fact that this statement is false, and that reproductive organs cannot identify sex.

    2. A newly fertilized embryo initially develops without any indication of its sex. At around five weeks, a group of cells clump together to form the bipotential primordium
      1. The most important aspect based around context of this article comes from all of the science-based evidence. This section specifically is important due to the fact that the science at the time of writing is advanced enough for humans to understand how different hormones and the formation of a fetus proves that gender isn't formed when a fetus has been created, instead needing a series of different processes for a sex to be assigned by the reproductive organs.
    3. The irony in all this is that these “protectors of enlightenment” are guilty of the very behavior this phrase derides.
      1. The genre of this text is opinion-based, or a persuasive text. Specifically a journalism article. This is proved by this section of the text that uses the word "irony". Irony is defined by something that contradicts reality. The fact that the author used this terminology instantly puts her stance on a pedestal and makes it very clear to the audience that they stand on an opinion, and even if the evidence backs it up, it is still an opinion-based article.
    4. Transgender humans represent the complexity and diversity that are fundamental features of life, evolution and nature itself
      1. The purpose of the text is to persuade those who use biology incorrectly to step back and attempt to understand how modern day studies prove the reality of those who are transgender. The author wants the reader to understand that humans are capable of being unique and more complex than that was previously believed.
    5. Environmental, social and behavioral factors also influence hormones in both males and females, complicating the idea that hormones determine sex.
      1. The author's audience isn't just college students. Instead it is directed towards people who use science as their argument that it is okay to hate people for their personal beliefs. The audience is directed towards politicians referenced towards the beginning, and educated readers who understand descriptions and the names of different hormones. And using this science correctly is the best counter argument for those who do not.
    6. To the IDW, trans people and their advocates are destroying the pillars of our society with such free-speech–suppressing, postmodern concepts as: “trans women are women,” “gender-neutral pronouns,” or “there are more than two genders.” Asserting “basic biology” will not be ignored, the IDW proclaims. “Facts don’t care about your feelings.”
      1. The motivation behind the author's writing is their beliefs towards how the media talks about transphobia and allows it due to science. As someone who studies the brain, the author automatically incorporates tones inside of their writing, directly showing their motivation.
    7. By Simón(e) D Sun
      1. This is the author of the text, and instead of being an author that is not credible, she studies neurology and is able to use ethos as evidence. But this gives the writings a source of credibility that transphobia isn't something that can be approved by science, it is just a prejudice towards trans people.
    8. Contrary to popular belief, scientific research helps us better understand the unique and real transgender experience
      1. As the end of the first section, this line is the original claim, while restated, this is the most simply put idea of the text. That scientific research doesn't disprove the transgender experience, instead helping prove it exists in biology and not just in society
