The author cites this claim from an article written in 1964 by historian C. Vann Woodward.
You're off to a terrific start! Since I mentioned the Jim Crow Laws and the Plessey vs. Ferguson case in my first RefAnnBib comment, I'm not sure if my suggestions influenced you to speak about them, but these two things are very concrete examples of how black people were degraded, and they serve to show how blacks were treated inhumanly. It's a good idea to include a piece by C. Vann Wood since it lends credibility to your argument because he witnessed these events firsthand(primary source) and saw the impact these stipulations and court ruling had on blacks and other minorities. He personally witnessed how the African population was plagued with feelings of sadness and despair as a result of these things. If you haven't already, go back and read my first comment because I believe it's very insightful and will hopefully enrage a flame within.

Overall, this is a very clear case of red flags for a trustworthy article.
Wow! What an interesting experience, but it was also informative in that it taught all of us valuable lessons about why we shouldn't always believe everything we read. It also proved why the process of writing RefAnnBib is imperative. By avoiding publications like these, you'll be less likely to base your argument on inaccurate data, which will degrade your case and undermine your credibility. It's better to filter these faulty and erroneous publications at the start rather than at the end. Your experience can benefit a lot of others. I am glad that you were able to effectively evaluate patterns of suspicious behavior because it enabled you to realize that the article was flawed and defective, as he used images to take up space. I'm glad you didn't just swallow the information this website gave you; but instead, you decided to go the extra mile to verify the statistics and facts by clicking on the links. Many of us can learn a great deal from what you've gone through.

The practice of reading interactively, or writing as you read, is essential to your growth as a writer
I'm really glad that an app like Hypothesis exists because it can help us organize our thoughts and highlight key pieces of information, which can ultimately prepare us for a class discussion, as said in the syllabus, and it's also advantageous. Annotating can also help us stay alert and attentive while reading or studying. I really like that we can apply its functionality to any sort of text that we'll read during our first semester at Baruch. I was given the opportunity to annotate during high school, but it was always made optional, so I never took it seriously. This, of course, is my fault, and due to my laziness and ignorance, I wasn't able to obtain this much-needed skill, and this is why I am so happy that you are giving us the chance to do so.
