      This reminds me of DuBois's double consciousness; their personalities used to be aligned, but gaining new friendships and fame unleashed a new side to Basquiat's personality, one that does not fit in with his friend's personality.

      The way all the poem's blocks are separated mimics the ripped and torn-apart situation.

    1. I believe children can be extremely contemplative because as a child you feel things so deeply, so strongly; there’s a presence, an alertness of the senses.

      I think that children have a higher ability to perceive depth within because of the simplicity of their mentality; because it is so simple, it tends to go deep into the artistic images, including poetry.

    1. Poetry is just prose chopped up into lines. I mean this to be final, categorical, and no slight on poetry.

      Part of poetry's beauty is the fact that it is organized into lines

      I don't think one can get a mind of poetry, I feel like you have it when you have it, and you don't when you don't
