While agriculture in Palanpur continues to see further intensication of earlier trends of mechanization,greater input use, increasing cropping intensity, a move towards cash crops, and a decline in sharecropping,these have not been enough to counter the trend of declining per household income from cultivation in recentdecades as the population has grown and households have divided. This has happened despite productivity perunit of land increasing for all crops. In terms of per capita income and per worker income, agriculture does notprovide the same kind of income security or opportunities for growth that existed earlier. The demand for non-farm employment and income is a natural consequence in such a situation.

      We can see here that the phenomenon around farm income is complex and don't only depends on one factor. There are multiple forces against each other. Economics shows that modernisation doesn't always equal to less inequalities.
