Of course, acknowledging what one doesn’t know works largely because(and when) it can be paired with evidence of other knowledge you have aboutyour topic. Good sense can—and should—also be demonstrated in other ways.In addition to providing information about your topic, showing that you under-stand that claims must be supported by evidence enhances the impression thatyou have good sense. (Recall the discussion of claims and evidence from chapter2.) Or rather, we should put the claim this way: claims must be supported by evi-dence when appropriate.
This part is important to keep in mind, this explains that to most effectively use ethos in an argumentative piece of writing you need to provide effective evidence or reasoning that helps support your claim. In doing so it also helps establish yourself as a trustworthy character therefore making your claim seem more trustworthy and effective towards the reader.
