In the past, transgender people were viewed as outcasts, certainly in corporate America. But Martine Rothblatt, the trans CEO of United Therapeutics, defied traditional roles to become the highest-paid female executive in the United States even though she was born biologically male.
I find these two sentences of the article pretty interesting, as it highlights the challenges transgender Americans face in society while recognizing an individual who was able to overcome these obstacles. As members of the LGBTQ community are constantly challenging traditional roles and social pressures, Martine Rothblatt was able to prevail over the person society wanted her to be, creating a successful career while staying true to herself.
