so. Bananas are one of the most significant crops of the Canaries as 18% of the islands’ agricultural land is dedicated to cultivating them3.

The islands’ history is quite mysterious; as pre-colonial life isn’t very well studied.

The islands are volcanic in nature and were formed by the canary hotspot 3 during the early Neogene period, 22 million years ago. 4
