    1. This new child had the right to a school that was more aware and more focused, a school made up of professional teachers.

I believe changing our mindset around school to a child "having the right to a school" helps aid in telling the general public how essential school really is. It is essential for teachers to continue developing themselves professionally so they are able to learn along side with the children.

    2. Rather than naming the space dedicated to creative exploration with children an "art room," Malaguzzi chose the French term "atelier," which evoked the idea of a laboratory for many types of transformations, constructions, and visual expressions.

I like the idea of not naming the room the "Art room." It feels very limiting because it feels like all that can happen is art. When there is so much more children can do with the materials in the room!

    1. Our understanding andour own being are a small part of a broader, inte-grated knowledge that holds the universe together.

We can learn so many great things from children.

    2. Expressing our theories to others trans-forms a world which is not intrinsically ours into something shared. Sharing theories is a response to uncertainty.

As the saying goes, "it takes a village," it is important for teachers to share what they are learning through observation. While every child is different, development follows similar patterns in children. When educators are able to identify a pattern in young children and share what they have observed, it gives resources to others who may be struggling with the same pattern.

    1. All children seek to realize their identity and make their voice heard within that specific context

I find this sentence to be an excellent reminder that the environment educators create in the classroom is set up to help remind children that failing and mistakes are natural and to not shame children for being / acting differently.

    2. Children are protagonists in society, bearing the right to be listened to and to participate, to be part of the group and take action alongside others on the basis of their own particular experiences and level of consciousness.

I feel like this image of the child is often lost in trying to meet heavy state standards. I often wonder if there will be a time this is valued more than children memorizing "essentials" (e.g., ABCs, math concepts, etc.).

    1. g children have important insights into the issue of children's rights and how it pertains to their own

This is so powerful. Imagine what we could do for children if we simply stopped filling their minds with personal thoughts about what humans do or do not have the right to do.

    1. You never come in an isolated way; you alwayscome with pieces of the world attached to you. Sothe meetings that we have are always contaminatedwith the experiences that we bring with us

This is such a great reminder for adults because while, yes we do bring intros pieces with us, so do children. Especially children who come from broken homes and see and hear things that some of us can never relate to. Big emotions from children often come from these pieces attached to the children.

    2. Children are very sensitive and can see andsense very quickly the spirit of what is going onamong the adults in their world.

I believe this happens sooner than we think! Even infants can pick up on vibes from adults!

    3. Exchange 3/94These comments are translated and adapted from a seminarpresented by Professor Loris Malaguzzi in Reggio Emilia,Italy, June 1993.There are hundreds of different images of the child. Each one of you has inside yourself an image of thechild that directs you as you begin to relate to a child. This theory within you pushes you to behave incertain ways; it orients you as you talk to the child, listen to the child, observe the child.

This reminds me of a lot of attachment theory.

    1. teachers organize spaces that support the engagement of small groups.

I think it is so important to have children interact with one another and one of my reasons for believing this is because when child A is able to help child B with a topic, that means child A is mastering the topic, thus providing evidence of learning.

    2. Children should be considered asactive citizens with rights, as contributing members, with their families, of theirlocal community.

It is so important to give children a voice. I will never understand not letting children voice opinions and thoughts for 18 years and then expect them to have the confidence to do so upon voting age.

    3. Through a strongsense of solidarity, people there are accustomed to construct and maintain theconnections with the community.

While this is not a part of what is being discussed, I firmly believe attachment theory is something that should be utilized in early childhood environments. This point proves that connection is essential and creating positive connections is greatly beneficial.
