LPS treatment led to the upregulation of DMT1 and downregulation of FPN1 in AM.
Is this because of LPS or HAMP?

differential iron accumulation in specific lung cell types, including airway epithelial cells, alveolar type II cells, and vascular smooth muscle cells.
Measured using histological analysis. DMT1 was found at the apical membrane of ciliated epithelial cells. No reference to the basolateral membrane.

Increased iron levels in the lung led to downregulation of iron importers (TfR1, DMT1) and upregulation of iron storage and export proteins (ferritin, FPN).
Doesn't appear to be a statistically significant difference between heterozygous and homozygous.

Results
Looked at whether soluble iron introduced into the lungs interacts with Tf in the pulmonary fluid. Rats were intratracheally instilled with Fe and lavage fluid was collected 10 minutes later. 27% of iron was found in the BAL, 22% of which was bound to protein - transferrin and albumin.

How do they know it is apical expression?
