    1. If the devil will not have them to bag, he must wring hard the spigot, and stop the bung-hole.

I think this quote represents the idea of resilience and perseverance in rough times. The concept of resilience is something that is showcased in the statement of "wring hard the spigot" since spigots are a form of faucet or valve, this is showing how one should apply pressure in areas that seem tight or tense. A bung-hole is a form of opening in a form of container, this would illude to the idea of not letting any concepts or ideas escape.

Creon may not be a peaceful ally, as his statue provides a fearful aura that impacts Medea.

This conversation is between the attendant and nurse, but it is conveyed internally within the Nurse's mind. The conversation is pertaining to the affair pertaining to Medea, Jason, and Glause. The attendant is shown to have a much harsher tone overall compared to the Nurse, while they are seen to be more optimistic for the future to come and the outcome for everyone. This quote pertains to the Nurse's internal dialogue and is portraying her much more hopeless inner thoughts. She seems to be putting up a much more positive front on the outside to protect Medea, but she is a worried mess on the inside.

"Holy Writ" refers to a novel that includes religious power and typically references the Bible or other sacred texts. It is not specified to one religion however, as it can be used to refer to any "sacred" text or novel. In more ancient times, it was also used to reference anything that involved a "holy" topic or reference. This is important to the reference of the warriors defending their lands, gods, and worshipped texts literally.
