hypothes.is: What does Harmon mean when he says "If the story marches to this beat, it will resonate."
I had to look up the definition of resonate because I didn't know exactly what it means. The definition means "produce or be filled with a deep, full. reverberating sound". Watching the YouTube video Every Story is the Same was a tad bit emotional for me because Harman talked about "If the story marches to this beat, it will resonate" and discussed how each story circle has eight steps which are...
- You = A character is in a zone of comfort
- Need= they want something
- Go= they enter an unfamiliar situation
- Search= adapt to it
- Find= get what they wanted
- Take= [ay a heavy price for it
- Return then return to their familiar situation
- Change= having change
Drawing a horizontal line through it the top of the circle represents where the character's journey starts and finishes and the bottom represents the world that needs to be traversed in order to grow and change. Harman said every story has a rhythm or balance he lays out three dualities to explain which are life/death consciousness/unconsciousness order/chaos. I related the story circle to my own situation that I am going through personal and I just don't see my circle evolving and coming to a full closure of hardships and success or a sense of knowing my story was struggling in the beginning but it made me stronger towards the end and I now know why certain paths closed and new ones opened. I'm waiting to feel like a hero in my own journey but I've been hurt and devastated so many times. Bringing it back to the question of what does Harmon mean when he says "if the story marches to this beat, it will resonate" is that no matter what is going on in your life, your story will move on and it can move on with or without you. I also believe that Harmon is suggesting in moving forth with your story and accepting the challenges that comes through your way and the reverberating sound is the sound of your heart pounding through painful yet growth victory.

hypothes.is: Minus style, media, tone, cadence and context - what is the core content of this story?
I have watched a lot of TED talks that I'm wondering why I haven't come across this one/ Honestly saying before reading my classmates thoughts I didn't know what the core content of this story was. I rewatched it a couple of times and was still a little lost but reading my classmates comments helped me understand what I was missing. Will Stephen was able to come up with a conversation about "Nothing and Nonsense" and yet I was hooked the various changes of the tone of his voice, his body movement, his pacing on the stage, and overall engagement. As a future educator, it shows me that communication and lesson plans should be clear and precise, that I should pull my students curiosity in with my words and hopefully help them develop theirs as well.

Some stories are more sophisticated as they only show us one part of the circle or they rearrange the order; they play with the formula a bit. Audiences love this; these stories tend to win awards. A series for example, shows us only bits of the circle at a time until eventually it all comes together as a whole - but still, a circle. The audience knows the circle so well, we complete it before the storyteller is finished. We anticipate what's going to happen; we know where things are headed and we guess how the story is going to end. We know the circle. We are all too familiar with the pattern. It's the details, the style and the characters that fascinate the audience.
Reading this section reminds me of the saying "coming to a full circle". I imagine this path that I am right now and it made have started out straight but now my path is filled with curves, zig zags, etc but it eventually comes back to where it all started thus created a "circle". I don't know if that made any sense but when I close my eyes, I this crystal clear video of this circle path I'm on.
