    1. How do you feel about Marji in this section of the book?

I have mix feelings because during this section she feels really bad about the casualties and even takes in her mother friends sons and act pretty mature then you go to the classroom and shes making fun of the mourning for the dead soldiers so that was pretty insensitive but then i have to remember she is a child and maybe joking with her friends lightens the mood during this traumatic experience

Has your opinion about Marji changed or remained the same? Why?

it has remained the same i don't see much change since i started reading

    1. ose are big collisions, Hally. They make for a lot of bruises. People get hurt in all that bumping, and we're sick and tired of it now. It's been going on for too long. Are we never going to get it right? . . . learn to dance life like champions instead of always being just a bunch of beginners at it? HALLY: [Deep and sincere admiration of the man.] You've got a vision, Sam!

first off sam is always seen as the less intelligent while hally is seen as the brains and more logical but here it sets a whole new tone for sam it shows his ideology his passions an so on

    2. HALLY: [Genuinely moved by Sam's image.] [Wow], Sam! That's beautiful!

sam creates a image for hally(imagery/simile) but also hally in genuinely moved by sams word and his passion this also shows how important dancing is to sam and finally is just shines light on their friendship it shows hally listens and they share whats passionate to each other and they both respect it

    3. a! This will teach the old bugger a lesson. [

also i see hally is always trying to break the third wall always trying to break the norms for black people and white people and trying to educate uneducated and oppressive white people

    4. But I'll point out to him that in strict anthropological terms the culture of a primitive black society includes its dancing and singing

this could be a reason why hally isnt as passionate about dancing compared to sam

    5. Your imagination left out the excitement.

hally is been left in the dark for the long time to me he is the type of person to walk around and hate the world but this could have something to do with his childhood and his father but he is very closed and in and has very little happy moments

    6. You can't fly kites on rainy days.

uhh i think the rain means like rough times or like depression and the kite is something positive or important to them like desire for freedom desire for equality

    7. nd we had! I was so proud of us! It was the most splendid thing I had ever seen

relating to the tone, the tone of this just sounds very exciting while reading this i found my self smiling it felt like i was in the moment with them, from the exclamation points to the dialogue and the motions it really set a tone of happiness

    8. what the hell does a black man know about flying a kite?

i think this has something to do with white privilege because i guess blacks were always known for working and "slaving" around not having fun no doing something you would see white families doing

    9. g alive behind me at the end of the string, tugging at it as if it wanted to be free. I looked back . . . [Shakes his

by reading this i know the hally speaks about bad things that happen in his childhood but in this memory he starts super pessimistic and in disbelief but then he goes into using words like miracle when it actually starts flying this kite can symbolize freedom and maybe even unity and equality between sam and hally

    10. this gives us insight on the strong bond between sam and hally by showing us how hally doesnt discourage sam when taking a math exam but lets him know dont rely on the exam to show your worth

    11. this shows even though hally can be very pesstimitc he is open to positive change he belives as we evolve our morals also evolve that we become less of heartless "monsters"

    12. hally is seems like hes panicking and trying to force himself to believe something while also forcing this on sam making sam feel like as if hes all wrong and doesnt know anything this is plain denial his brain cannot fathom the idea of his father coming home so it makes a different reality/story that he is still sicka nd wont be coming home anytime soon

    13. "his mood changed" by adding this i think the author wanted to illustrate to us that hally wasnt as happy as thought he'd be to see that his father is coming home. i wonder why...

    1. Shaking his head.

sam is talking to willie about his actions, willie knows he's in the wrong because the author/writer adds "reluctantly" as willie states how many times he hits her the writer also shows sams disapproval by adding"shaking his head". Sams seems to be the parent or the rational thinker in this relationship

    2. In total agreement.

willie seems to support sam alot and is his "hype man" they look like they have a very healthy and comfortable relationship
