    1. Isabella’s response highlights the importance of time, circumstance, and intrinsic motivation. She reminds us that if a student is doing something personal which they enjoy, they’ll want to do it “from scratch

      Preach!

    2. When might it be OK to use a “ready-made cake mix” in this course (e.g. a template of some sort)? What is the equivalent of “ready-made cake mix” in this class?

My answer is when learning or when observing information and transforming it into your own perspective.

    3. What would indicate to you that the process of learning something is more important than getting the output “right”?

Academic integrity is an important thing to consider when being a student and is something that a good student comes into class knowing that they know if required of them. If academic integrity is not abide by there are consequences to deal with.

    4. If our goal was a tea party, and cake was just one component of many other factors, how important would it be that the cake be homemade?

      It is not necessarily important.

    5. What are some of the advantages of baking from scratch? Participants may mention customization/personalization, emotional value, depending on occasion and who it’s for; enjoyment of the process; and learning and improving your own baking skills. We can ask then, what if your goal is to open your own bakery shop?

this is a great analogy. Baking a cake on your own has its benefits of quality and customization but also having ease of using something more streamlined can still equate to a satisfactory result depending on the circumstances. If i were to have something with serious research, it would be best to outsource the material myself.

    1. The purpose of discipline is to modify the behavior of a student who is disrupting learning and the functioning of the school.

I didn't know that this was the purpose of suspension. i always felt like it was primarily an act to disiplin and make a student think about what they did like home jail.

    2. Students are allowed to wear clothing that aligns with their gender identity and expression (ACLU Fact Sheet, 2016).

I always found it so silly that hats are seen as a distraction. For me personally i see my beenie just a some one would see a hair tie. if my hair is all over the place and crazy i can tuck it away in a beanie so i don't see why all hats should be considered distracting.

    3. This case relates to disruptive speech and cyberbullying

This is really interesting. I think that with technology there are bread crums and proof to what is being said and how it can have negative consequences. When things are said out loud, some times they cant be proven but i think that if written speech can be held up that spoken speech should be able to to.

    4. the right to wear religious clothing and talk about religion,

Is this included for teachers as well? If a student believed in and practiced satanism, could they wear something represent the Baphomet?

    5. How do we create classroom communities that are inclusive of various cultures and perspectives, while also acknowledging that some groups deem certain cultures and perspectives as “offensive”?

I dont think civil rights movements are offensive

    6. As a public school teacher, can you exercise your own ‘personal liberty’ in how you dress?

This section of reading concerns me. Can i be reprimanded for wearing an inappropriate shirt outside of school? Can i be reprimanded if the lyrics to a song i wrote are considered rude?

    7. You may have heard of the #RedforEd movement, which involves teachers striking or protesting in many different states as a way to advocate for students. Watch this video to learn more about this movement from the National Education Association (NEA).

Im not sure if i got a good understanding of what the movement red for ed was specifically fighting for after watching this video.

    8. Certain state legislatures view teacher tenure as a barrier to these initiatives because it is more difficult for school districts to dismiss tenured teachers for poor performance, and as a result, relatively few tenured teachers are fired (Goldhaber & Hansen, 2010). Therefore, some states have begun to change tenure laws to adhere to the accountability requirements stipulated by the U.S. Department of Education as it relates to teacher evaluation and student achievement

I totally agree with this. To me it seems like there should be different strategies implemented to protecting teachers rights while also not creating barriers making it harder to help correct lacking teaching practices.

    9. A teacher or a student can also take their complaint to the U.S. Department of Education’s Office of Civil Rights (OCR) which investigates the complaint to determine if a civil rights law has been violated (U.S. Department of Education, 2020c).

I feel like going over this process would be really beneficial to being a teacher. Though i feel for the most part the schooling system is in the right direction with ethics, i think its good to question authority.

    10. he Supreme Court affirmed that a teacher has First Amendment rights and provided teachers a degree of protection for in-class curricular speech.

Thats awesome! We love that! That makes it to where if there is a close minded individual trying to stop something they see as wrong from being shared that it can be vetoed.

    11. Always consider that you must treat all students equitably, not necessarily equally.

This makes me think of equity sticks (popsicle sticks with everyones name on them) that are pulled when theres no one taking the opportunity to respond in class.

    12. The educator recognizes the magnitude of the responsibility inherent in the teaching process. The desire for the respect and confidence of one’s colleagues, of students, of parents, and of the members of the community provides the incentive to attain and maintain the highest possible degree of ethical conduct (NEA, Code of Ethics, 2019).

All of this is really weird because obviously everyones ethics are different . Like a very religious teacher could see books involving same sex couples as being inappropriate and not want to share it. THis teacher is inclined to think this is ethically wrong because of the ethics they follow through religious practice where some one as myself as a teacher would think that not sharing a piece of literature due to same sex involvment would be ethically wrong.
