    1. In order to achieve these goals it is important for ZAPU (a) To inform the peoples of all countries about the struggle of the Zimbabwean people against colonialism and imperialism and for independence and social transformation; (b

In order to eradicate imperialism from Africa ZAPU has to spread the word about the evils that come with colonialism and imperialism. African nationalism as a whole is one way ZAPU thinks they can drive any colonizers or Europeans out of Africa. They must use force to protect themselves, their land, and their resources.

    2. Determined to liberate themselves the people of Zimbabwe have, relentlessly and with increasing intensity, carried out the armed liberation struggle for nearly two decades

Like Ho Chi Minh and Vietnam, the people of Zimbabwe are feeling a surge of nationalism which is fueling their revolution. They have united their people and identified a common enemy in the white man. They truly believe in their cause and will fight til the end.

    1. For the sake of the Fatherland we must make sacrifices and endure hardships for a certain time.

This reminds me of Hitler's writing regarding Germany as the "Motherland" and the sacrifices that must be made to bring peace and prosperity. This is why countries with strong nationalistic ideals are so dangerous. The best type of soldier is one who has real reasons to fight. Not for money, but to protect his home.

    1. our people were subjected to the double yoke of the French and the Japanese.

Here the Japanese are coming to 'liberate' their Asian neighbors. I put the word liberate in sneer quotes because Japan was not liberating Vietnam. At this time Japan was attempting to grow themselves as an imperial power. The author uses the term "yoke" here to show how the Vietnamese people are not under the control of one imperialist power but two.

    2. They have built more prisons than schools. They have mercilessly slain our patriots; they have drowned our uprisings in rivers of blood.

Like Luka, I completely agree with the fact that the reason that more prisons were built than schools is so that the French can suppress the Vietnamese people and not let them prosper in an academic setting. They spill the blood of patriots in order to maintain their dominance in Vietnam, the French's biggest threat is a Vietnamese nationalist in this scenario.

    1. I want the countries here to realise it and not to think in terms of any limitation. Today, a war however limited it may be is bound to lead to a big war.

Nehru and the other leaders of these third world countries were put in a very difficult position during the nuclear tensions between the Great Powers. They did not have the resources or budgets to fund the construction of nuclear weapons, they are were not entirely involved in the conflict, and if anything were to happen they would have felt the repercussions.

    1. Women, who should be the queens of households, wander in the streets or they slave away in factories. For the sake of a pittance, half a million women in England alone are labouring under trying circumstances in factories or similar institutions. This awful fact is one of the causes of the daily growingsuffragette movement.

Gandhi is making a claim to what he believes a woman's role is in a 'civilized' society. This shows how the definition of 'civilized' can vary between cultures, societies, etc. Like Marcus said, this is backwards in accordance with our customs, but Gandhi believes that women play an integral role in the household. What creates these societal norms is something that researchers have been trying to figure out for years, and one of the most asked questions about humans.

    2. They will press another button, and they will have their newspaper…. Everything will be done by machinery. Formerly, when people wanted to fight with one another, they measured between them their bodily strength; now it is possible to take away thousands of lives by one man working behind a gun from a hill.

Gandhi provides a different perspective here by explaining the evolvement of civilizations. The word 'Civilized' can mean many different things in different contexts. One person's civilized living may be barbaric to another. But I think his main message is that technology does not measure how civilized one is.

    1. In this way the question of the oppressed nations become one of supporting the oppressed nations, of rendering real and continuous assistance to them in their struggle against imperialism for real equality of nations, for their independent existence as states.

I find it extremely ironic how Joseph Stalin can even bring up themes like equality and oppressed nations when he literally killed hundreds of thousands, if not more, of his own people. Stalin connects imperialism to the oppression of people when he has hundreds of thousands of his own citizens starving to death. This reminds me of when Columbus and other explorers used religion to justify their actions in foreign lands.

    1. t was not by mere chance that the first forms of civilization arose where the Aryan came into contact with inferior races, subjugated them and forced them to obey his command. The members of the inferior race became the first mechanical tools in the service of a growing civilization.

This reminds me of the "White Man's Burden" and the idea that white or in this case the Aryan race was physically, intellectually, religiously, etc. more competent. While this idea was widespread throughout Europe and the entire world, Hitler took it to new extremes. Throughout this semester we have seen the enslavement of people and raping and pillaging of villages, but Adolph Hitler was performing genocide on one of the largest scales ever.

    2. What, for example, should we say of a poster which purported to advertise some new brand of soap by insisting on the excellent qualities of the competitive brands? We should naturally shake our heads, and the same is true of political advertisement. The aim of propaganda is not to try to pass judgment on conflicting rights, giving each its due, but exclusively to emphasize the right which we are asserting. Propaganda must not investigate the truth objectively and, in so far as it is favourable to the other side, present it according to the theoretical rules of justice, but it must present only that aspect of the truth which is favourable to its own side.

I find it comical how Hitler is comparing political propaganda to the advertisement of cleaning products. Propaganda has been practiced in many different forms, according to Hitler the framing of information through propaganda should only benefit the party releasing the content. While this was and still is an effective measure taken by Hitler and politicians today. Hitler was so delusional and power hungry that he was willing to do whatever it takes to control the masses of Germany.

    3. he life which the Jew lives as a parasite thriving on the substance of other nations and States has resulted in developing that specific character which Schopenhauer once described when he spoke of the Jew as ‘the great master of lie

During this time throughout Europe the community of the Jewish faith was faced with discrimination and oppression. The Nazi party thrived off of this and it was one of the ways Hitler gained power. Germany and the Nazi party needed to put the blame of the war and Germany's financial troubles on someone. A common enemy will always bring a nation together, even if the public is blinded by propaganda.

    4. This very fact fully justifies the conclusion that it was the Aryan alone who founded a superior type of humanity; therefore he represents the archetype of what we understand by the term: man.

This statement not only reminds me of the "white man's burden", but it also shows how historically a patriarch was in place. Hitler's specific language referencing 'man' shows how during this time there was a male dominant society in place.

    1. which are inhabited by peoples not yet able to stand by themselves under the strenuous conditions of the modern world,

When the author references the modern world, I think that they are trying to show how advanced the western world has become in recent years. Due to this the idigenous people of these foreign colonies are so far behind that they won't even be able to sustain life on their own. This can create a connection back to the white man's burden where these people felt obligated to help others while in reality they were not helping at all.

    1. he earth seemed unearthly. We are accustomed to look upon the shackled form of a conquered monster, but there—there you could look at a thing monstrous and free. It was unearthly, and the men were—No, they were not inhuman.

Here Marlow is debating the fact at whether or not these savage men were truly the same species as him. "The earth seemed unearth..." because there is no way according t Marlow that he and the savage men can be of the same species. It would be unearthly according to Marlow, which shows how convinced people were that race actually created I hierarchal system during this time.

    2. He was there below me, and, upon my word, to look at him was as edifying as seeing a dog in a parody of breeches and a feather hat, walking on his hind-legs. A few months of training had done for that really fine chap. He squinted at the steam-gauge and at the water-gauge with an evident effort of intrepidity—and he had filed teeth, too, the poor devil, and the wool of his pate shaved into queer patterns, and three ornamental scars on each of his cheeks.

Here it is obvious that the connection of a colored man who was a slave to a dog was made. The narrator, Marlow, pities and insults the savage man, but at the same time he compliments his ability and the progress he has made. This shows the blindness that humans had during this time period.
