Reading the first chapter as someone who came from a Catholic family really spoke out to me. The mom reminds me of my dad, and I can relate to not having to watch certain things growing up or engaging in certain medias under the guise it was "too innapropriate" or it "made me stupid."

I decided to look up Miluk, and I was told that Miluk refers to a Native American Language from the Coosan Family. The poem says that Miluk is a "mountains name" which made me curious on what it meant. When I looked up where the family was located, I see they are located by the Oregon East Coast, where their territory is composed of forests and rivers. Because of the geographical environment, makes me assume this is the reason why Miluk has this meaning.
