    1. The following sections will survive any termination of these Terms or of your Account: 5 (Your Content), 7 (Things You Cannot Do), 12 (Indemnity), 13 (Disclaimers and Limitation of Liability), 14 (Governing Law and Venue), 17 (Termination), and 18 (Miscellaneous).

      Even if you terminate your account you are still giving away your rights.

    2. We may make changes to these Terms from time to time. If we make changes, we will post the revised Terms and update the Effective Date above.

      At least they are transparent and provide an edit history.

    3. NO EVENT WILL THE AGGREGATE LIABILITY OF THE REDDIT ENTITIES EXCEED THE GREATER OF ONE HUNDRED U.S. DOLLARS ($100)

      I find this really shocking, 100 dollars is the maximum compensation for any damages incurred. If that is that reddit accepts liability.

    4. IN NO EVENT WILL ANY OF THE REDDIT ENTITIES BE LIABLE TO YOU FOR ANY INDIRECT, CONSEQUENTIAL, EXEMPLARY, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR LOST PROFITS ARISING FROM OR RELATING TO THESE TERMS OR THE SERVICES, INCLUDING THOSE ARISING FROM OR RELATING TO CONTENT MADE AVAILABLE ON THE SERVICES THAT IS ALLEGED TO BE DEFAMATORY, OFFENSIVE, OR ILLEGAL. ACCESS TO, AND USE OF, THE SERVICES IS AT YOUR OWN DISCRETION AND RISK, AND YOU WILL BE SOLELY RESPONSIBLE FOR ANY DAMAGE TO YOUR DEVICE OR COMPUTER SYSTEM, OR RESULTING LOSS OF DATA.

      I find it demoralizing that Reddit is so adamant about claiming no liability. I would want the social media services I use to have some semblance of responsibility and care for their users.

    5. WE DO NOT REPRESENT OR WARRANT THAT OUR SERVICES OR SERVERS ARE FREE OF VIRUSES OR OTHER HARMFUL COMPONENTS.

      I find it ironic that reddit has a policy of anti-malware yet will not guarantee its enforcement or efficacy.

    6. THE REDDIT ENTITIES DO NOT WARRANT THAT THE SERVICES ARE ACCURATE, COMPLETE, RELIABLE, CURRENT, OR ERROR FREE.

      lol, I think its kind of funny that Reddit will not guarantee the quality of their services.

    7. . Instead, in such jurisdictions, the exclusions and limitations below shall apply only to the extent permitted by the laws of such jurisdictions.

      It would probably be best to research what protections are in place for our data in our place of residence.

    8. We reserve the right to control the defense of any matter for which you are required to indemnify us, and you agree to cooperate with our defense of these claims.

      I did not know that reddit could force your cooperation with their defense.

    9. Except to the extent prohibited by law, you agree to defend, indemnify, and hold Reddit, its affiliates, and their respective, directors, officers, employees, affiliates, agents, contractors, third-party service providers, and licensors (the “Reddit Entities”) harmless from and against any claim or demand made by any third party, and any related liability, damage, loss, and expense (including costs and attorneys’ fees) due to, arising out of, or in connection with: (a) your use of the Services, (b) your violation of these Terms, (c) your violation of applicable laws or regulations, or (d) Your Content

      Interesting, by using reddit you give up your right to hold them accountable. I feel like this lets reddit get away wot basically anything.

    10. You acknowledge and agree that you shall not acquire any ownership rights whatsoever by downloading Materials or by purchasing Reddit Premium or Virtual Goods

      Even if you use reddit or purchasing goods from reddit you are not entitled to any of the intellectual property of reddit.

    11. We use third-party service providers to process your Payment Information. If you submit your Payment Information, you agree to pay all costs that you incur, and you give us permission to charge you when payment is due for an amount that includes these costs and any applicable taxes and fee

      I knew that reddit uses outside payment processing, but I wonder if tis is unique to reddit or if there social companies also use theird party processing.

    12. f you believe Your Content was wrongly removed due to a mistake or misidentification in a copyright notice, you can send a counter notification via our Copyright Counter Notice Form

      Ok, at least there are mechanisms to appeal copyright removals.

    13. Also, please note that if you knowingly misrepresent that any activity or material on our Service is infringing, you may be liable to Reddit for certain costs and damages.

      Wow, I had no clue that reddit could come after you for infringing copyright laws.

    14. We have a policy that includes the removal of any infringing material from the Services and for the termination, in appropriate circumstances, of users of our Services who are repeat infringers.

      I think that thees copyright rules are pretty standardized throughout social media platforms. They all want to maximizer content and limit their exposure to lawsuits.

    15. You may not enter into any agreement with a third party on behalf of Reddit, or any subreddits that you moderate, without our written approval;

      Reddits use of Moderators basically sublets content monitoring to its users.

    16. Use the Services to violate applicable law or infringe any person’s or entity's intellectual property rights or any other proprietary rights;

      Again, on paper reddit claims to be against piracy and infringement of intelectual property. however I have seen multiple times instances of piracy on the platform.

    17. Upload, transmit, or distribute to or through the Services any viruses, worms, malicious code, or other software intended to interfere with the Services, including its security-related features;

      Smart, I like that reddit explicitly states it will not tolerate the use of its service as a promoter for malware. However, I have seen some sketchy posts on reddit with some questionable links so I don't know how effective it is at moderating this term.

    18. You acknowledge and agree that we will not assist you in any way with your promotion, and you agree to conduct your Promotion at your own risk.

      That makes sense. Reddit does not want to be associated with sketchy promotions or give aways.

    19. Your use of Third-Party Content is at your own risk and you should make any investigation you feel necessary before proceeding with any transaction in connection with such Third-Party Content.

      So reddit wil platform and promote third party content but won't assume any liability over it. To me, this seems like reddit knows that some of its third party partners aren't always the most trustworthy entities and doesn't care enough about its end users enough to offer some kind of insurance over who it promotes.

    20. you irrevocably waive any claims and assertions of moral rights or attribution with respect to Your Content.

      WOW.. you waive your right to be given attribution.

    21. When Your Content is created with or submitted to the Services, you grant us a worldwide, royalty-free, perpetual, irrevocable, non-exclusive, transferable, and sublicensable license to use, copy, modify, adapt, prepare derivative works of, distribute, store, perform, and display Your Content and any name, username, voice, or likeness provided in connection with Your Content in all media formats and channels now known or later developed anywhere in the world.

      That is A LOT of rights, I think reddit should be more transparent in its sign up process over the amount of control you concede to them.

    22. You retain any ownership rights you have in Your Content, but you grant Reddit the following license to use that Content:

      I had no idea that you gave Reddit certain rights over your content when you post it to their site.

    23. We take no responsibility for and we do not expressly or implicitly endorse, support, or guarantee the completeness, truthfulness, accuracy, or reliability of any of Your Content.

      It makes sense that Reddit claims no liability over the content of its users. After all, it would be almost impossible to vet or fact check all of its posts.

    24. We reserve the right to modify, suspend, or discontinue the Services (in whole or in part) at any time, with or without notice to you.

      I did not know that reddit could reddit could suspend or discontinue it services without prior notification to its users. It would be nice to have some heads up before any suspension of services. Reddit seems to care a lot about its complete autonomy over its services.

    25. access the Services or Content in order to build a similar or competitive website, product, or service, except as permitted under the

      You can't use reddit to ripoff reddit.

    26. license, sell, transfer, assign, distribute, host, or otherwise commercially exploit the Services or Content;

      I did not know that you could not use reddit's services for commercial gain. However, from personal experience, I have seen plenty of posts that do just that.

    27. We reserve all rights not expressly granted to you by these Terms.

      This gives reddit an extreme amount of discretion on what they consider their rights as a corporation to be. It essentially is a catch all terms that gives them the freedom to do anything they want.

    28. Reddit’s Privacy Policy explains how and why we collect, use, and share information about you when you access or use our Services.

      I found it interesting that the privacy policy is buried in a separate document from the user agreement. Its almost like reddit wanted to create an additional barrer for learning how our data is used.

    29. You can form a binding contract with Reddit, or, if you are over 13 but under the age of majority in your jurisdiction, that your legal guardian has reviewed and agrees to these Terms;

      I found it really interesting that reddit requires you to have the ability to form a "binding contract" with them. Even if you are a minor it states that by using the services your guardian or parent has reviewed the TOS. However, no where in the sign up process does it clearly state or prompt a parental review.
