    1. Make your introductory paragraph interesting. How can you draw your readers in?

In my opinion this needs to be a required element. The point of writing an argumentative paper is for other people to read it. If your introductory paragraph doesn't pull people in then the main goal of your paper has already failed.

    1. It should begin with a sentence that looks a lot like your thesisto summarize the general points

I think that many people can get carried away with the conclusion. They aren't really sure how to bring it to a close. And in the end they just end up directly copying their thesis. The conclusion should be similar to the thesis, but not a direct copy of it.

    2. Usually an introduction starts broad

Always ease your reader into your essay. Don't slam the topic and facts right in front of them. Let the essay build, this will make your argument more persuasive.

    1. Addressing the opposite side actually makes your argument stronger

I feel that this is often forgotten about. By addressing the other side you can point out it's weal stops in order to make your argument stronger.

    2. should be clearly stated and often contains emphatic language

Always make your thesis understandable and confident. This will help your argument seem stronger.

    3. This introduction should end with a thesis statement that provides your claim (what you are arguing for) and the reasons for your position on an issue

This is something that I always forget about. Providing a well structured thesis will prepare the reader on what they are getting into.

    1. helping them recover from their trau

Many victims of child abuse don't want treatment. They have hardened up over the years. They now have a cold exterior and don't feel like talking about.

    2. depression and alcoholism to sexual maladjustment and multiple personality.

Being ill had a lot to do with child abuse. Usually someone with a healthy mind wouldn't want to harm a child.

    1. Was Maria’s whipping excessive enough to qualify as child abuse?”

This is an utterly stupid question. And types of violence towards a child should qualify as child abuse. Whether it's word of mouth or a fist.

    2. “I don’t beat my boys because I don’t want them to feel like they have to beat a person in order to communicate with them, or to get them to do what they feel they should be doing.”

This builds a much better relationship between child and parent. And also can forge a bond of respect in between the two.

    3. part of a cultural tradition that sought to steel black children for the world, forge their characters, help prepare them for the pure meanness that waited out there, just because of the color of their skin. Many black parents who whipped felt more was at stake if they did not scourge their children.

I found this quite fascinating. If you look at the facts child abuse can destroy a child's life. It can leave them scared, angry, and depressed. They will use turn to sex, drugs, and alcohol as a means of coping.

    1. In the United States, more than 4 children die from child abuse and neglect on a daily basis. Over 70% of these children are below the age of 3

I almost positive that the parents of this child were either abused when they were young or have some type of illness.

    2. Children who experience child abuse and neglect are 59% more likely to be arrested as a juvenile, 28% more likely to be arrested as an adult, and 30% more likely to commit violence crime.

This really doesn't surprise me. Most of these children are angry and confused. And a lot of the time they just want to be noticed.

    1. Develop a checklist of what "tools" are needed in the interview:

For the love of god if you are going to ask someone to waste their time answering questions for you make sure to come prepared. Have questions, a notebook, pencils, and a recording device with you.

    2. The interview begins before you meet the person!

Before you interview someone be sure to do a little research on the person before hand. See what you can learn about them before hand. This will also help improve your understanding and interview questions.

    3. What you find interesting about the subject

Choosing a subject that interests you is key when doing an interview. Doing something that interests you will make you put more effort into the interview.

    1. Project confidence

Having confidence during an interview will make the interview go smoothly and make the other person feel much more comfortable. Being very shy during an interview can sometimes make one feel uneasy or frustrated.

    2. Plan what to wear.

When doing an interview the goal is to make the person feel as comfortable as possible. So attempt to dress modestly, try to steer away from the crop tops and super short shorts. Go for a neutral and conservative attire, especially if the topic is a little dark.

    3. Prepare responses.

After asking a main question try to analyze what you think that the person is going to say next. This will allow you to ask the best and most sincere follow up questions.

    4. Review trade or business publications. Seek perspective and a glimpse into their industry standing.

Now of course I'm not planning a job interview, but I feel that this is also a good tip for a regular interview. Is to know what you are getting into. Attempt to have a better understanding of the person's past and present before jumping right into the interview.

      1. "You never told me anything about Vietnam". Even though his wife was hearing these tragic stories for a first time she kept an open mind and listened carefully.
    1. "At the end of the day you go home and there is no one waiting for you". When Philip said this to Andy, Andy nodded his head and said yeah. He showed empathy towards Philip about his situation.

    1. And why are some people more compelled to believe them than others?

It's always been said that only "crazy" people believe in these conspiracy theories. But I also think that it is bored people as well. People who just want some real excitement or drama. It's the same reason that many people are obsessed with spy and superhero movies.

    2. such as the claim that Barack Obama was born outside the United States or that the financial crisis was deliberately orchestrated by a group of Wall Street bankers.

Is it just me or does it seem like Americans try to stir up drama and issues because we really don't have much to complain about. Do these people have nothing better to do?

    3. for which there is no proof.

He never has any proof. These are just ideas that a bored 7th grader would come up with on a Monday afternoon. Why are so many people following him and believing him if he has absolutely no proof.

    4. "I may just have to take off a week and just only research this and actually go to where these places are and stuff," Jones said. "Fact,

Where does this guy get his "inside information"? Are his sources even legit or legal?

    5. Jones is also one of the nation's leading promoters of conspiracy theories — some of which take on lives of their own. He has been a chief propagator of untrue and wild claims about a satanic sex trafficking ring run by one of Hillary Clinton's top advisers out of a pizzeria in Washington, D.C.

This guy sounds like the founder of disinformation. His purpose is to cause drama and an up rise. Not to provide useful information.

    1. Mary Johnson founded From Death to Life, an organization that supports mothers who have lost children to homicide, and encourages forgiveness between families of murderers and victims.

I feel that there are some circumstances that are completely unforgivable. An example being torture, kidnap or even rape.

    2. "I just hugged the man who murdered my son."

It's absolutely fascinating that friendships can be born under the most unlikely circumstances. It also hints at the idea that "people are good".

    1. Rose M. Singer Center—a women’s jail on Rikers Island also known as “Rosie’s”—that includes a small nursery where mothers can stay with their children until they are up to a year old.

It brings me a sense of relief that the children aren't instantly separated from their mothers.

    1. according to his Medal of Honor citation, he once used glass from a broken window to slit his own wrist in order to “convince his captors of his willingness to give up his life rather than capitulate.”

This thing seems to only happen in movies. But when you think deeply about it the shear amount of courage and loyalty it took to do that act is completely overwhelming.

    2. hose questions immediately became a sound bite and a punchline for late night comedians, and for millions of Americans, they defined a man they knew little about

I'm a little disappointed by this. The words of a brave and noble man that had gone to hell and back being used in jokes?

    1. You gotta kinda like each other…if something happened just say ‘I’m sorry’ and get it over with and make up,

It's pretty wonderful about the shear amount of wisdom that this man offers up in a short interview.

    2. “roll with age, don’t worry about it, it’s coming. Enjoy life, it’s wonderful.”

I think this is absolutely wonderful advice. Many of us are taught to worry from a young age. Here, he tells us to accept whats coming. And he also hints at the idea that if you worry you suffer twice.

    1. Put wordy phrases on a diet.

Wordy phrases can become tiresome after a while. They become repetitive, confusing, and boring when used to often. Try and steer towards more simple and direct phrases.

    2. . An evaluation of the procedures needs to be done.

It's fascinating how adding -tion can completely change the tone of the sentence. It also makes the sentence seem less smooth, and slightly more confusing.

    1. When a writer does not begin a sentence with OLD information, the reader has to hold the NEW material in suspension until they have figured out how it connects to what has been mentioned before

I feel like they make this sound like a larger issue than it really is. Whether the old information comes first or second, I have no problem understanding either of them. It doesn't exactly leave me in "suspension".

    2. Linguistic theory has suggested that readers understand information more clearly when a sentence begins with information that a reader already knows (old information) and ends with new information.

This actually is painfully obvious. I wish I started using this method sooner. Readers will be able to create a quicker connection and understanding with the old information, which just makes it that much easier to then connect that to the new information.

    1. he large issues in the paper, not the commas.

But can't commas make or break the sound of your paper. If it sounds weird then the readers won't be interested in your story.

    2. Wait awhile after you’ve finished a draft before looking at it again.

It quite interesting to see your new perspective and ideas when you come back later.

    3. Writing is a process of discovery, and you don’t always produce your best stuff when you first get starte

How long should you wait between writing a draft and revising in order to have the best quality writing?

    4. then proofreading will just be putting a band-aid on a bullet wound.

Is there a certain amount of times you are supposed to revise. And what if you revise, but don't make many changes? Are you doing something wrong or would that just be considered proofreading?

      • Since there is so much dense writing throughout this blog. I do wish that the writer would have added in more pictures to make the page more colorful, entertaining and less overwhelming.
      • I am certainly impressed that a 17 year old wrote this blog. Her knowledge of cooking is very extensive and magnificent for a teenager. And her healthy habits mixed with her refreshing writing style is quite inspiring.
    1. So I might’ve gone slightly crazy at the farmers’ market the next day and ended up with more veggies than I knew what to do with…

I do enjoy how the writer adds a bit of humor in her blog. It makes it entertaining and much more interesting when she talks about her day. She also only adds in the highlights of her day, which keeps the reader more entertained and her blog short and sweet.

    1. The writer could have written this article a little more respectfully and left the vulgar language out. Leaving out the terrible language would have helped the writer appear more professional and less angry.

    2. The step by step format of this blog is easy to read and informational. The only thing that really concerns me about this article is the content. How do we know if it's truly reliable? It could of easily have been made by someone who doesn't truly understand the full process of releasing a film or by someone who did terrible research.

    3. The title sounds like those useless baiting articles about losing weight or coping with depression. Where they trick people into buying products that don't work or give out "secret" tricks that are ineffective.

    1. Hideaway Girl xxx

Even though we know what she enjoys and so on. We truly don't who she or even he is. Which just makes this blog extraordinarily interesting. It allows the writer to explain and write how they how they perceive and want other to see them just through a simple name. It reminds me of the TV show "gossip girl".

      • In my opinion Hideaway Girl writes with extreme confidence. She posts whatever she feels like and when she wants too. She tells you what she loves and hates and what she can and can't do. I do admire this, but one thing that I wish could of been different about the blog is the writing. I wish it was a bit more colorful word choice wise.
