1937, 2 years before World War Two.
Local officials on Thursday brought food to the camp but decided to distribute the aid the following morning. The decision angered some of the displaced people, provoking scuffles in which three people were killed.
Local officials decisions to distribute food the following day sounds like the smallest decision for people to get killed over, what really was the reason? Are the displaced persons being starved? What could truly be the reason for such an outbreak of violence? There has to be a deeper reason as to why this happened.
The decision angered some of the displaced people, provoking scuffles in which three people were killed.
This almost sounds condescending or belittling to what actually took place. Political differences caused local conflicts in the displaced persons camp resulted in three deaths.
a lawless zone in order to satisfy its criminal appetites."
You cannot change a quote, but this quote contributes to the conflict of the situation and the war polluted situation with news and politics. Lawlessness zone just echoes more stigma on the anarchy, barbaric and uncivilized perspective that the rest of the world has. Maybe rather than the news or just the news being biased in the media, it is also political leaders who contribute to these perspectives through their rhetoric and their public statements.
have captured swathes of new territory in recent weeks and displaced tens of thousands of people and President Tshisekedi is blaming Rwanda.
I did some further research on the M23 Rebels and apparently, they are funded and supposedly supported by Rwandans. From a western reader perspective, whenever I hear or see Rwanda, I always think about the Rwandan genocide which taints my understanding. The image of tribal warfare that continues and is now fought with modern weapons pollutes my perspective on African current events.
s into vigilance groups in order to support, accompany and sustain our armed forces, our defence forces,
clearly all about military vigilance and contributes to the eastern DRC as a violent and constantly war ridden conflicted country that's stuck in warfare.
President Félix Tshisekedi has called for support from young people to resist the rebel forces.
What does "young people" mean? Is the president calling for young men and women to take up arms to protect the presidency? What is the conflict? Most western readers would automatically assume that this meant children fighting in warfare and violence. Would this be a call for young adults to be more politically active in the conflict? or militaristically active?
Three people have been killed in scuffles over food aid at a displaced persons' camp in eastern Democratic Republic of Congo.
"Scuffles over food" generates an image of anarchy or primitive conflict over food resources. This contributes to the image of Africa as a wild continent stuck in the past with uncivilized people. I do appreciate the term displaced persons camp as it is more inclusive and understandable the new politically correct term for that situation. Could rephrase as people lost their lives in conflicts over food rations in a displaced persons camp that is located in the eastern Democratic Republic of Congo.
rebel violence
Rebel Violence, depending upon perspective, rebel violence can refer to a movement that is justified through acts of justice, or on the other side, be seen as insubordinate resistance. Could change the wording to young resisters or political activists. I do not know where to go with the violence aspect.
Let that be realized. No survival for the British Empire, no survival for all that the British Empire has stood for, no survival for the urge, the impulse of the ages, that mankind shall move forward toward his goal.
If they do not win, it will be the end of the British Empire and their way of life. It would be the end of democracy and western civilization. A threat not just to Britain but to the entire human race.
I say it is to wage war by land, sea, and air. War with all our might and with all the strength God has given us, and to wage war against a monstrous tyranny never surpassed in the dark and lamentable catalogue of human crime. That is our policy.
He is harkening on religious beliefs of the majority of the country. That under God and the strength he has given the British people that they should fight against injustice. Especially painting the enemy as a malevolent threat in the world.

The cost of this war and trying to show that even he, as a leader, is fighting to win the war. Political rhetoric to help gain more support for the war effort.
"That this House welcomes the formation of a government representing the united and inflexible resolve of the nation to prosecute the war with Germany to a victorious conclusion."
Advocating for unity because it is the duty of the country as a whole to come together to fight Germany and win at all costs.
A war cabinet has been formed of five members, representing, with the Labour, Opposition, and Liberals, the unity of the nation.
Unity of a Nation, meaning cooperation between the different British political parties.
Winston Churchill's "Blood, Toil, Tears, and Sweat" Speech On Friday evening last I received from His Majesty the mission to form a new administration. It was the evident will of Parliament and the nation that this should be conceived on the broadest possible basis and that it should include all parties. I have already completed the most important part of this task. A war cabinet has been formed of five members, representing, with the Labour, Opposition, and Liberals, the unity of the nation. It was necessary that this should be done in one single day on account of the extreme urgency and rigor of events. Other key positions were filled yesterday. I am submitting a further list to the king tonight. I hope to complete the appointment of principal ministers during tomorrow. The appointment of other ministers usually takes a little longer. I trust when Parliament meets again this part of my task will be completed and that the administration will be complete in all respects. I considered it in the public interest to suggest to the Speaker that the House should be summoned today. At the end of today's proceedings, the adjournment of the House will be proposed until May 21 with provision for earlier meeting if need be. Business for that will be notified to MPs at the earliest opportunity. I now invite the House by a resolution to record its approval of the steps taken and declare its confidence in the new government. The resolution: "That this House welcomes the formation of a government representing the united and inflexible resolve of the nation to prosecute the war with Germany to a victorious conclusion." To form an administration of this scale and complexity is a serious undertaking in itself. But we are in the preliminary phase of one of the greatest battles in history. We are in action at many other points — in Norway and in Holland — and we have to be prepared in the Mediterranean. The air battle is continuing, and many preparations have to be made here at home. In this crisis I think I may be pardoned if I do not address the House at any length today, and I hope that any of my friends and colleagues or former colleagues who are affected by the political reconstruction will make all allowances for any lack of ceremony with which it has been necessary to act. I say to the House as I said to ministers who have joined this government, I have nothing to offer but blood, toil, tears, and sweat. We have before us an ordeal of the most grievous kind. We have before us many, many months of struggle and suffering. You ask, what is our policy? I say it is to wage war by land, sea, and air. War with all our might and with all the strength God has given us, and to wage war against a monstrous tyranny never surpassed in the dark and lamentable catalogue of human crime. That is our policy. You ask, what is our aim? I can answer in one word. It is victory. Victory at all costs — Victory in spite of all terrors — Victory, however long and hard the road may be, for without victory there is no survival. Let that be realized. No survival for the British Empire, no survival for all that the British Empire has stood for, no survival for the urge, the impulse of the ages, that mankind shall move forward toward his goal. I take up my task in buoyancy and hope. I feel sure that our cause will not be suffered to fail among men. I feel entitled at this juncture, at this time, to claim the aid of all and to say, "Come then, let us go forward together with our united strength."
