    1. It has to be made bright, the skin of this planet   till it shines in the sun like gold leaf.   Archangels then will attend to its metals   and polish the rods of its rain.

These lines now push the idea that we must do more for our planet, that together our efforts can bring back to its former glory, full of life and vitality. Especially when the skin of the earth is compared to a gold leaf, something that is valuable, precious but quite fragile. Which is why the next line mentions the archangels because the earth needs to be cared for as if it is a divine being.

    2. And sky - such an 0! overhead - night and day   must be burnished and rubbed   by hands that are loving   so the blue blazons forth   and the stars keep on shining   within and above

Just like the beginning of the poem, this reflects the message of the poem that we must take action and give earth the love and care that it needs. That if we do act and work on the problems like pollution, our planet will flourish. We can make it so that the future generations may still see the stars shine brightly, a city not covered by smog and pollution.

    3. The trees must be washed, and the grasses and mosses.   They have to be polished as if made of green brass.

The imagery that trees, grass, and mosses need to be polished as if it were made of green brass conveys the message that even the small and insignificant things on earth should be treated like a treasure. That even though you might not see the importance of grass and mosses to our environment, it does not mean they are useless. That for our planet to prosper we must take great care of our environment and nurture all aspects of it so that we make keep its beauty.

    4. It has to be celebrated.   O this great beloved world and all the creatures in it.

These lines tell us that our love and care should not just end with planet earth but should also extend to all living things it contains. That we should appreciate all the creatures that roams the earth with us, and we must celebrate their existence. For it is the planet’s ecosystem that sustains our needs and allows us the opportunity to live our lives to the fullest.

    5. It has to be loved the way a laundress loves her linens,   the way she moves her hands caressing the fine muslins   knowing their warp and woof,

This for me sets the message the poem wants to convey that we need to treat our planet with love and care. It compares the actions we need to do to for planet earth to the way a laundress treats and understand the clothes that they are cleaning. That like how beautiful clothes are managed with such great care and, for our planet to become a beautiful place for us to live in we must treat the same way.
