    1. Rushton ended his talk by stating ‘‘any country with large black populations will have large problems,’’ and received a standing ovation (Brown, 1996, p. 8). On the American Renaissance website, the work of Rushton, Jensen, and Lynn was discussed and admired. The American Renaissance online archives contained dozens of articles about the dangers of Black crime, the rape of White women by Black men, the denial of rights of White people, the dangers of non-White immigration, the assertion that ex-slaves thought life better under slavery, and the reality of immutable race differences.

This shows how imbedded racism is in our society, Rushton is someone who believed that the IQ test works across all ethnicity's is the same person who has these incredibly racist idea and getting huge support form the public. At that time they would do anything to make people of color feel less then whites.

    2. They argued that alleged higher breeding rate of lower IQ groups and immigrants posed a great threat to America, despite substantial evidence of the “Flynn Effect” that overall intelligence was rising, not falling. As historian Leila Zenderland (1997) noted:

They continue to push false narratives even those there evidence opposing what they are saying. Suggesting high breeding rate of lower IQ groups will hurt America is the same as saying people of color having children will be a threat to America. This makes me wonder why people would believe this even though there is opposing information? Do we often agree with false information?

    3. That the size of the African American brain is still under debate in the 21st century is discouraging for the discipline, but truly alarming for people of color.

This sentence is showing concern for the future and shows how we are still studding things that are irrelevant like brain size. This is alarming for people of color because they are still being oppressed by these false stereo-types. They are trying to do anything to keep us from being equal

    4. The Testing of Negro Intelligence (Shuey, 1958) became a standard text for the justification of segregation and was cited in later works such as Jensen (1969) despite Shuey’s very obvious exclusion of results that did not support a hereditary interpretation

Intelligence tests at the time were created for the success of the white men and used to keep African Americans down. These test were biased used to segregate African Americans under false pretenses. They created an African American only intelligence test in order to continue with Jim Crow laws. This makes me wonder of the phycologist knew there research was wrong and continued with it anyway to push there agenda?

    5. fraudulent 1840 census data on alleged rates of insanity among slaves versus free Blacks were used to argue that slavery was beneficial to their health, an assertion that resulted in intense debates (Deutsch, 1944).

It is so important to recognize false information given to us by researches. At this time many believed that enslavement was beneficial to there mental health. We all know now that the statement is false, this shows the importance of questioning research and finding the truth. False information like this prolongs social issues and influences the public negatively

    1. Horney considers it remarkable that in the formulation of penis envy,it is not considered a problem that females feel at a disadvantage becauseof their genital organs. Their feeling of being mutilated is instead consid-ered axiomatic. Possibly, thought Horney, the damaged status of womenwas too self-evident to masculine narcissism of the day to require expla-nation.

Horney is trying to explain that woman feel disadvantaged for other reasons that have nothing to do with penis envy. She is trying to explain that woman are oppressed and manipulated by men which leads to there disadvantage. This makes me wonder if Freud truly believed woman had penis envy or just used it as a tool in order to keep woman down for his own personal gain?

    2. For Foucault, all people un-consciously tend to enact and promote the power relations of their owncultures, even when those relations oppress them. For Horney, in quitesimilar fashion, women become instrumental in their own subjugationand marginalization

She is saying that the societal norm promotes the oppression of woman which continues to develop women who continue to be oppressed. Horney knows changing these norms are no easy thing to do. She believes that woman are the only ones who have to speak up and continue to fight for there freedoms.

    3. n Horney's world, penises and vaginas matter, but it is most importantthat they do not matter in the same way they did to Freud

This sentence did an amazing job of summing up Horney's believes, it is clear through out the article that she believes there is a difference between men and woman and it is important as a culture to understand that. But she believes that those differences don't make one better then the other. She was fighting for the ability to give women the same opportunity's as men.

    4. In fact, according to Fliegel (986), Horney was more Freud than Freud. While one can attribute many possible reasons for this, such as hypothe-ses based on power factors, internal conflicts, and so on, it is also impor-tant to remember that Horney was shaped by her own historical andsocial context and should be viewed from within i

Its very interesting that Filegel said "Horney was more Freud than Freud" this in a way agrees with Horney and alines with feminist views. I say that because her ability to to be in level and have the same attributes of someone who is at the top of the game. It is also important to remember the historical context, Horneys views at the time were not openly excepted and she had to fight to lay down the ground work for the feminist's movement

    5. Horney took issuenot only with Freud's theory of penis envy, for which she is especiallywell known, but also with Freudian theories concerning female develop-ment, motherhood, and sexual development in women, as well as withthe doctrine that libido is male. Freud largely dismissed these papers asfeminists' inability to work through their penis envy

Freud's theory of penis envy states that woman are forever jealous of men because of there lack of a penis. Horney responded by creating the theory of womb envy stating men are jealous of woman for there inability to have children. I find this so interesting because while she knew it was untrue she still created it to combat Freuds penis envy. Freud wasn't even able to read Horney's paper but instead said she was working through her penis envy.
