    1. “My boys all made good. It’s their old man who failed”

When I read this quote, I totally understand how is related with The American Dream. Most of the parents who try to gibe a better life to their children, they end up giving up their dreams so their family is able to succeed and actually have better opportunities. Adults most days, they push their kids to get somewhere in life so they do not end up like them, sacrificing their dreams and goals. At the end of the day, kids are not the ones failing but the parents are the ones who end up struggling with living a good life after spending their whole live to help their kids to succeed.

    2. “If you work hard and play by the rules, you should be given a chance to go as far as your God-given ability will take you”

By reading this quote, I understand how many people may try to follow the path of The American Dream. Following the rules, working hard, etc. I do not think that only these things will actually help you get The American Dream, most of the time the people who succeed, they already have resources, people who can rely to and actually get the job they were looking for or getting into the school they always dreamed of going to. Is not only hard work but smart work, meaning, putting aside the rules and find ways to actually make things work. We would get impressed on how most people find solutions for their problems or to even make a dream come true.

    3. “Liberty requires opportunity to make a living decent according to the standard of the time, a living that gives man not only enough to live by, but some-thing to live for.”

Seeing this note, I understand a little bit more about The American Dream. This quote not only shows the reason why people get stock here in the USA without being able to really make a life here, they "do not have some-thing to live for." In other words, they may set goals but by the time they are tying to achieve those goals, they end up struggling with keeping up with everything and that is when they lose the focus on why they are doing all that stuff and hard work. They realize that they had something to live for but thy had to let it go so they could take a better opportunity and they lost themselves while trying to do so.

    4. “It was possible in this wonderful city for that nameless little boy—for any of its millions—to have a decent chance to scale the walls and achieve what they wished.

In this quote you can see the contrast between "wonderful city" and "nameless little boy." America is described as a marvelous city, pretty houses, good weather, etc. When describing the boy, the author used nameless little boy. Nobody knows his name, they are millions of people and there is no good reason for people to even ask if he have a name. In other words, little, poor, lost, non important boy. I think that is how many of us look at people who come to USA trying to make real the American Dream.
