    1. Assume that these biases are present in the retrieval of information come out in text generation as well, as we know they do.

i think the AI images and videos are such a waste and create a very real threat to some people, mainly the elderly. I have had to tell my father on numerous occasions that something he has seen is not real. It is frustrating and hurtful. I wish people were more conscientious when creating and dispersing AI imagery.

    2. Should an algorithm decide that certain types of speech are unacceptable

I would say no. There are cultural dialects or slang that are culturally specific to groups. So what if it is just the WEIRD ones that do not understand the language being used? Would that qualify a certain speech being unacceptable?

    3. culture is the most powerful tool the ruling classes have for maintaining their position of power.

This is a very accurate statement and it makes me think of how online discussions are filled with language that supports racism and hate. I know that when I see some posts or articles online, I just can't stomach going into the comment section because of the comments. Do people really feel like this? Do they hate everything that is not white and right??? Do I meet these people in my everyday interactions? Are they smiling to my face but really hating everything that I stand for? This is probably way out of context but when you think deeply about power structures I feel like there are people that hold on to their power via hating the ones that do not look like them and rejecting them from their spaces.

    4. I promise: this is a talk about AI. But it starts out in the late 1920s

I must admit that I am still struggling with this reading. It is making me go off into tangents that I have never been before and creating a discomfort as I try to incorporate my thoughts. I have no knowledge of history outside of my own and I don't know if that is a bad thing. However, if there are students here with this worldly knowledge then I can appreciate that.

    5. Cultural Hegemony

When I see this term I immediately think of the distorted relationship between Canada and the First Nations people. Forced assimilation tactics (Residential schools, genocide, Indian Act, etc.) have solidified the current and ongoing systemic injustices for First Nations people. I may not be up to speed with Gramsci or Marxism, but I do understand Cultural Hegemony from this perspective.

    6. countless biases and presumptions

I have already stated my view of AI use when it comes to Indigenous knowledges, especially traditional knowledge. I find AI to lose context and distort information that will further harm our ways of being and understanding. There are many instances that IK or TK should not be for the eyes of the outsider. We have been researched enough. I found a good article for anyone looking to read more on this.
